New to Skoda

Featured Replies

Just wanted to take the opportunity to say 'hello!'

I shall be joining the SKODA club later today when I go pick up my first ever Skoda.

I have chosen the 1.4 TSI Elegance Octavia Estate as it is - I think - the model that best meets my requirements and budget.

The car has sunset glass (hoping it will help keep things cool for my 4 dogs), maxi dot and the usual CD player has been replaced with one that has Satnav due to problems with availability - suits me fine.

If anyone has any tips then I will read them with interest.

Hal

Main tip is to keep reading in here.

Oh and shop around for servicing quotes.

...and share with us some pictures of your pride and joy, especially the free upgrade from Bolero to Amundsen, is it touch screen like the Bolero?

I have the factory fit sunset privacy glass on our Scout and find it just right, during the height of the summer I also fit the Skoda window blinds for an even darker tint and cooler interior...

read the manual? :giggle:

Welcome to the world of Skoda my biggest tip would be enjoy it and I know you will. Should you have any problems this site is really friendly and a valuable source of information!

Welcome to the club.

Sure you will enjoy the 1.4tsi surprisingly good wee engine in a fair sized car.

First impressions as I would think by now you have been out for a run round town at least.

Interesting that there's still appear supply issues with Balero. Pick mine up in a couple of weeks, here's hoping my Elegance has the Amudsen too!

Hi - not got round to taking any photos yet - and need to wait until it is gleaming again now - Sheffield has drizzly rain today.

The Amundsen does have touch screen. It seems OK - need to get a memory card and get some music copied on to it to try it out. The satnav is easy enough to use - pleased with it.

Well 3 days in I am VERY pleased with my choice of car.

Been for a couple of short motorway drives and tried out the cruise control - found it a little scarey at first if I am honest but I will get used to it.

The engine allows you to get through the gear box and into 5th or 6th very quickly.

Going to be slapping spare alloys and winter tyres on it tomorrow as I understand we are in for another cold spell of weather. I am a firm beleiver in the safety features of winter tyres.

If it is a build to order then it might not have as I think the problems are resolved - mine was sat on the docks waiting for someone to snap it up. Your dealer ought to be able to tell you.

Excellent choice, I've had my Octavia estate for 5 yrs now and it easily fits 4 dogs in the back, 2 Jack Russell cross crocodiles, a spaniel and a lurcher. I'd fit a Skoda dog guard as well as a load liner. Loads bigger in the back than my mates BMW 3 series and far more economical too.

Welcome to Briskoda Hal - lots of good guys on here so don't be afraid to ask questions - we were all newbies once and some of us still are :-)

Good luck with the new car!

PS: avoid cruise control if possible - not the most economic way to travel even if it is relaxing!
