Intermittently crackly radio

Featured Replies

Of late my radio has periods of intense crackliness to the point of completely obscuring the underlying radio programme. It applies to all FM stations. It can either start or stop during a journey and does vary in its degree, probably related to how interesting I'm finding the programme.

I've eliminated the possibility of interference from the heater or fan. The only remedial action I've tried was WD-40 in the aerial hinge.

Of course I'm hoping this is a well known issue with a cheap fix.

Hmmmm.....mine did that a few times, but the next day it fixes itself (it's like it tries to search out another station) B)

This has started happening to me over the last 2 weeks. It gets so bad I have to switch over to CD's

Dont know if its the same issue but there are threads somewhere on here reporting that the amplified aerial bases can get moisture in and that affects the recption.

Is that an easy fix ??

You have to remove a bit of the upper trim so you can slide your hand in between the roof & the headlining, you can then unplug the unit and undo the nut holding it in place. You do have to be careful as the headlining is a bit fragile, and if it "cracks" it will show. Before you go that far I'd suggest finding a member on here with VCDS and asking them to do a fault scan. The audio system does store fault codes, and if the amplified base is on the way out there might be a fault logged for an aerial fault.
