Fitting Xenons

Featured Replies

i know this has been asked but i cant find a thread with the answers im after.

Basically ive seen some mk1 xenon skoda headlamps with no bulbs or ballasts etc, just the light units.

if i buy a kit off fleebay will they fit these? ive read i will have to get a larger washer bottle and get some jets fitted in the bumper to wash them?

what would i need to do about adjusters?

thanks for any help

Washers not req....

Just get xenon headlights and d2s ballasts / bulbs

Headlight washers only need to work if their fitted!

You'll pass mot so dont worry

oh brill. what about auto leveling or what ever it is? lol :D

Mot does stipulate but ive passed with them

Not working.... Basically if the beam is set right it passes....

The main thing is you'll have proper projector lenses so you'll be fine!

Which xenons are you going for? I fancy an oem set

Edited by BigJase88

I want oem style xenons too!

For the levelling you just need to wire them up to the existing light level control

The only MOT requirements of the levelling is that if autolevelling is fitted it has to work, or if it's not fitted then there has to be some way to adjust the level (i.e. on yours through the normal control)

They will not pass without washers and self leveling

Yes they will.... Been there and passed

Yes they will.... Been there and passed

Even if you get a stickler mot tester whack the standard lights back in

new rules mean unless its oem then ALL aftermarket kits are an instant fail !!!!

but as above all down to the tester some not so stricked as others B)

just bought some oem light units off fleebay :D

looking for the HID kit to fit with them now, is there anything i should not go for? just getting clued up on the different lights etc

Genuine or aftermarket??

Any more?

genuine light units. dont think so cos its from a stripped car i think

Rare find, welcome to the club. ;)

If you get headlight washers and tank from an Elegance or L&K then that's half the battle sorted. The levelling isn't that crucial, from experience, if the car is well maintained. I've been dazzled by more halfwits in Corsas with poorly angled halogen lights than I have aftermarket Xenon setups in projectors.

ooo didnt realise they were rare, kewl hehe.

thanks for the link ive put my name down :D

its my first mod to the car since i got it so im all excited haha

This may clear a few things up http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_170.htm

information (only briefly - more detail on the link)

Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps MAY be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system.

Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given.

Headlamp washers may work in conjunction with the windscreen washers (when the dipped beam headlamps are switched on) or by a separate switch.

HID lamps may be identified by:

. taking a few seconds to reach full intensity

. having a bluish tinge to the light

. having an igniter module/inverter behind the headlamp

. having ‘DCR’ marked on the headlamp lens.

HID headlamps use high voltage and extra care should be taken when inspecting these items.

Method of inspection

1. Check the presence, security and operation of the headlamp switch.

2.

Where HID or LED dipped beam headlamps are fitted, switch on the headlamps and check the operation of any headlamp levelling and cleaning devices fitted.

Reason for Rejection

1. A switch missing, insecure or faulty.

2.

A headlamp levelling or cleaning device inoperative or otherwise obviously defective.

3.

A missing, insecure or obviously incorrectly positioned obligatory headlamp.

so if its there it needs to be secure and working. if washers/leveling is not there then it cant be tested

i would be tempted to not use the standard ballast/d2s bulb setup, but to fit a refrofit hid kit instead into the projector headlights, they should give a better output than the stock older style d2s bulbs and ballasts, and are cheaper to get/replace should you need to.

I prefer 4300k bulbs, perfect light output, and not too blue to attract attention, infact they are pretty much OE in appearance.

You can retrofit bits to run self levelling etc, from kufatec, they do levelling kits, however reading between the lines like you, if it not there they cant test it!!
