Fabia VRS overboost? Help...

Featured Replies

I've been told my car is at 1.7bar turbo boost when it should be at 1.3.

I'm pretty sure the car is standard although it does rev all the way to 5000 revs. There could be a possibillity a map is already on there I guess?

I reallty didnt think it had previously been mapped because it had like 25k on the clock.

I've had it cleaned through with innotec diesel VNT cleaner and it's amazing stuff and there is no loss of power so I'm pretty sure VNT is alright.

Is there anything else that could cause overboost?

Thanks in advance

Even at 1.7 bar a stock turbo would blow, it's possibly running a hybrid at that boost

honestly at 1.7 it would blow? it's been running like that for at least 6 months. How can I check what turbo it is?

When my car was mapped, boost was changed from 1.32 to 1.37 I think

Do you have access to vcds? If you have and can take some logs then I can tell you it's mapped or not.

I don't but I'm tempted to buy one. Is it just an odbreader? eBay have a few for a tenner... Do I need any specific software to get those logs? Cheers

You needs vcds-lite. Think the free download from Ross tech allows you to log.

I believe the keep Chinese clone cables of eBay work.

Ok Great, I've ordered one. In the mean time, is there anything that could be causing the overboost? There is no loss of power, limp mode or anything??

If it still pulls hard past 4k revs all the way upto the redline. It will have been mapped standard cars run out of puff after 4k revs

I still can't work it out, it does rev all the way to 5k but I'm not sure it's pulling hard.... :S

You will feel it slowdown after 4k revs if it's standard

I think someone is getting bar and psi mixed up. A standard vrs will boost around 1.3 bar, a mapped one will boost about 1.6 to 1.7 bar. Mine is shark mapped and boosts at 1.7 bar.

Yeah I did think that 1.7 was safe but probably the max a standard turbo will do. I've bought the vag com to see if I can work out if it's mapped or not.

If it pulls after 4k and is boosting 1.7bar without the turbo going into limp mode then its mapped.

Ok thanks for that... So maybe it is mapped... Can anyone confirm what I'd need to do with vagcom software to confirm this?
