9: Colour: Metallic Amethyst

11: Maxidot mpg is quite accurate to real consumption

Dislikes:

1: Lack of low down torque - 170CR is SO MUCH better

2: Not getting into higher gears around town (suspect this is due to 1)

Loves hanging on to 3rd/4th - maybe engine still tight

3: I should have ordered paddles - may look at retrofit (Shark)

4: Should have a bigger fuel tank

OK:

1: Fuel consumption, Averaging 28 mpg helped by recent 280+ mile run to B'Ham where I saw 31.2 average

2: Interior colour, I ordered Ivory/Ivory and was changed to Ivory/Black

as previous selection no longer available and I am glad it changed as the mats are filthy

after recent snow/bad weather

Quirks:

1: Twice Sat Nav could not get an intial signal so journey start from somehwere in the middle of Germany

2: A noise like an owl hoot on right hand lock when brakes are hot - still trying to work this one out as it is

intermittent.

Seems like your GPS unit suffers from the Regensburg Syndrome. The dealer can probably fix that for you.

Unfortunately the 3.6 doesn't have a turbo - it could be fun though - so there is not much torque at 1100-13300 RPM which my car often chooses in town.

I have learned myself two simple tricks to compensate:

  1. Switch to "S"-mode whenever you think you may need torque. I do it often and I never think about it any longer. "S"-mode will keep revs above 2500 RPM and you have plenty of torque.
  2. Give it the right amount of kick-down to hit the gear you want.

I enjoy my V6 and its power and torque with these two tricks.

I don't have the paddles and I don't miss them.

I indeed agree on the need for a bigger fuel tank.

I've had the V6 Estate for about 14 months, and still rate it as a brilliant vehicle. The noise from the brakes has been an intermittent problem in mine, but only at very low speed. Several visits to the dealer and still no joy in resolving. The low-end torque - massively helped by a re-map, which has changed the character of the car entirely - it pulls away at low RPM, and goes like the proverbial scalded cat if you give it the boot ! :giggle:

Hi Kiwi

are you able to share the difference (numbers?) after the remap?

Very keen to understand too. Bill2 published an article by VW on the DSG box and it states:

Power upgrades and the DSG

While the DSG's official limit is 258 lb-ft (350 nm) of torque, it's possible for the transmission to hold more power. Stock torque on a TDI engine is 170-236 lb-ft, depending on the engine. HPA motorsports built some high power testers for VW and they experienced no unusual problems. They recommend fluid changes every 10,000 miles on high power modified cars. And of course, how much you actually use that available power and towing/racing use will effect transmission and fluid longevity. If you have a TDI, the ECU has a torque limiter so that any power upgrades will not go over the DSG limit. To gain the full benefit of power upgrades you may need a DSG tune.

Both the 170Tdi CR and V6 Petrol engine quote max torque at 258 ft-lb - all I would like is the V6 peak torque to be nearer that of the 170CR in the rev band (ie aroung 1500-1800 rpm instead of 2500)

Sorry for taking a while to reply - travelling and no time to keep an eye on the forum... The paperwork that came with the upgrade quotes power as 220kW and torque as 385Nm - having done around 4000km since the upgrade was done I still think it has made a significant difference to the driveability. The extra power is certainly noticeable if you put your foot down, but what I really appreciate is the torque, with the car happily cruising around town (and pulling away) at less than 1500RPM. The local dealer reckons that most of their new sales include the remap, and I can see why.

The engine & box are almost Passat R36. I had both mine remapped by REVO & it gave me much better control & It also gave me manual control so I could drive in restricted areas in a higher gear & that helped the economy................. (yes, I know, In an R36????????? economy!!!!!!!!)

Another vote for the too-small fuel tank.

I have a CR170 4x4. Last week I filled the tank on Friday, again on Sunday, again on Tuesday, again on Thursday and again on Friday. I did cover about 1500 miles, but the tank is a small nuisance.
