Needing a bit of guidance fitting tdi dump valve

Featured Replies

Hi folks recently i bought a tdi dump valve kit from ebay, but i'am having trouble locating a few things

on my instructions it says the electrical solenoid valve must be connected to the brake servo/ vacum pipes, i know where these are

one to the dump valve, i know that :p

but this one i'am unsure where to connect, "connect to intake pressure source" (inlet manifold or pressure side of turbo)

this is where i'am getting lost

Also if anyone can tell me on the top of the throttle pedal which wire sends the 0-5v throttle positioning sensor signal

90bhp alh engine code incase anyone may need it to better help me, thanks in advance

dump valve on a derv.... erm.. :notme:

No point!

These turbos have variable veins so there will be no boost to dump as when the car doesn't need boost the veins in the turbo change so as not to create pressure.

If it's an early 90bhp TDI it will have a wastegated turbo rather than variable vane but as said DV's on a diesel are a waste of money... not because of the vanes etc. but because there's no throttle on a diesel so no need to release trapped boost like on a petrol. They serve no real function on a derv just make a noise... and the kits I've seen are £200+... just to make a noise!!! Where it says "connect to inlet pressure source" basically you need to trace the boost pipework from the turbo round the side of the engine, through the intercooler and up to the inlet manifold where the boost enters the engine (thats where the inlet manifold is on a 1.8T petrol pretty sure it will be in the same position on a diesel). If there are any small vac hoses coming off the inlet manifold then tap into one of those with a T-piece and that will give you a pressure feed to the valve. I've no idea what wire you'd need to tap into on the accelerator, possibly one of the guys on here who has fitted cruise control would know as I think that has to take a feed from the accelerator too. It might be worth asking your questions on the Fabia I forum though I bet a few of them have fitted DVs to their 1.9 TDI engines.

Ah yes,

Didn't see it was the 90hp older one.

Still pointless... apart from the noise of course! lol

Fitting advice.

Either side, doesn't matter :D (You might gather I have a bit of a hatred for TDI dump valve "systems")

hahahaha ok , but i've got mine looking like a vrs, but i want the dump valve so i can be a big kid haha, :p anyways i had spare cash and bought a kit for £90 so not to bad really

Aww shame, i just love the mpg i get from the good ol girl, got it up to 70mpg no joke as the scottish crew as it was on the way to gretna for a memorial meet :p

The mpg and engine is fine, its just the dump valve. It WILL actually make the car run worse (maybe you won't be able to tell as marginal) but all the air being PFFFFT'd into the atmosphere is air the engine is meant to be consuming, to create the diesel combustion process, as regulated by the MAF, etc.... Removing that air will probably cause slight overfuelling, and lower performance.

I have a highly tuned derv and will NEVER fit a DV kit to my car.

Find a spot on the boost piping after the intercooler.... Connect it to any vac hose via a t piece

K great, but if there's a loss in proformance or overfueling then it'll be took right off

You probably won't notice, but I would just be wincing every time I heard it go PSSSST as thats air my engine should be consuming.

Oh, and don't expect anything even slightly close to a petrol turbo dump valve noise. Its literally like someone just temporarily letting some air out of a car tyre....

The ones I've heard sound like the air brakes on a bus!

Couple of lads came flying into my local Tescos carpark in a Pug 306 that was making DV noises, it was only when they pulled up in front of the store I could hear the engine... it was an HDI

How I laughed!

Haha luv it :D

but if it's not what i expect it's getting ripped right off, atleast if it's as bad as a bus i'll get away with cutting through my town bus terminal to save a few mins :p
