Hand Brake...

Featured Replies

This is my first ever brand new car and was just wondering if i need to get the hand brake tightened up? I know when you get a new hand brake fitted they advise you to take it back in a week or 2 to get it tightened as they stretch... is this the case with new cars? and if so where should it be taken? the dealers?

thanks

It should self-adjust, so you don't need to worry about it. If it doesn't, take it to the dealer.

Normally something you would do AFTER having work done, say to replace cables etc...

The service schedule should do a routine inspection and adjust if needed. Enjoy!

That's my take too . Last year ,my MK1 needed the rear shoes loosening off.Had a look at haynes for shoe adjustment - "press the brake pedal and they'll self adjust " . If the MK2 self adjust is the same - it's that simple that it has to be seen to be appreciated - it's a wedge , driven by gravity ,and a spring . Otherwise ,you've got the lads(and ladies) at the dealers to sort out any problems for the next couple of years .Mine was two and a half years old when I got it. Only had two problems , one of which was sorted in minutes by local dealer .The other was door cards .

Only ever had to adjust a handbrake cable .But that old lady was sitting on over 150k ,and it was British.
