Dealer fit MDI - Fabia 1.4 SE - how much? worth it?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm awaiting delivery of a Fabia 1.4 SE MPI.

This model doesn't have MDI functionality to control iPods etc.

Can anyone advise how much a dealer will charge to fit this?

Obviously MDI will enable better control of the iPod, but is the sound quality any better compared to feeding the sound into the car stereo via the the aux in port?

Thanks in advance,

dagi

Re post this in the Fabia MKII section and you will get a much better response!!! ;)

i have MDI fitted at factory but with the stereo having a SD card reader, we have all our music on the sd card and hardly ever brother to plug an ipod in. its a nice gadget but not really worth the money imo

I have recently started to use mine (don't had the sd card slot) and it is handy but not really something I would pay very much for. If you have the aux input port that will give you the access just not the control.

The control of the ipod via the radio is okay but slow compared to using the actual ipod. Only just found that you can select control to the right stalk and have the info on the MFD, but I prefer to have the normal trip stuff displayed.

I have MDI factory fitted to mine -sound quality is as good as it can get through the factory kit. I have a USB stick that I leave in the car with all my music on (I don't care for Apple products) the navigation of files through the stereo is pretty basic (but sufficient) I definitely would not want to be fiddling with an ipod while driving. MDI will charge your ipod -the aux plug and 12v power outlets are in a daft place if you ask me -I think they're where they are so rear seat passengers can get to them.

If you are thinking of adding a Bluetooth kit or DAB radio to the car then there are a few kits around that have the same function as the MDI -something to consider as these will probably be a cheaper option. I have a Parrot MKI9100 which has Bluetooth audio plus USB, aux and ipod jacks and you can control these devices with the Parrot remote -this is OK but the MDI has better sound quality than the Parrot in my opinion..
