Clutch & Gearbox

Featured Replies

In the process of making a list of mods for my vRS and obviously one will be sage 1 a re-map.

Now I have read up on this and it seems the standard clutch can take around 300nm without too much of a problem.

However are there any recomendations on an uprated clutch should I decide to get a hybrid etc in the future. I want to fit a new clutch (even though existing is ok) as its done about 85,000 and dont want any mods to break it as its past its best.

Also just out of interest what sort of torque can you put through the gearbox before that will rip itself to bits, I seem to recall my old MINI couldnt have much extra put through the standard gearbox.

Anyone ???

Gearset/gearbox is very strong. Jason (Devonutopia) had the selector mech attachments beefed up as the original rivets(?) can come loose. That was whilst it was already apart though, probably for his LSD install.

300lbft not 300nm, and I wouldn't approach 300lbft too closely either.

Uprated clutches basically start from organic replacements that hold another 10-20% torque through to the likes of Helix and Spec.

Start here? http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/transmission/

As you can see, uprated clutches can be very expensive. Plus 4-5 hours to fit them....
