205/50 to 225/45 Tyres on a Mk1 Octy RS

Featured Replies

Hi All,

this has been discussed many times before, but seeing as I need to replace both my front tyres (to a complete ball joint failure shredding them!) I thought I'd just confirm;

Will 225/45's fit sraight onto the standard OE 17" alloys with no messing about

Does this cause any problems?

Will it matter if there rears are 205/50 and the fronts 225/45?

Cheers

Wayne

They fit, and 0.4% larger, so near as makes no difference!

You'll find that most garages will be unhappy fitting the larger tyres to the front but to be honest, in the case of the Octavia, it should help dial out the understeer a little.

Get the 225's fitted then simply swop your wheels front to back then you will have the wider tyres on the rear and then you can scrub the other set of 205's off

Mine are running low at the moment and am not sure which way to go. Is there much difference in ride quality using the 45 profile? as use my car daily for a 30mile commute.

I found the wider tyres to be more comfortable.

Remember that the 50/45 bit is a percentage - the actual height of the sidewall doesn't (really) change between 225/45 and 205/50
