Dealer fit MDI - Fabia 1.4 SE - how much? worth it?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm awaiting delivery of a Fabia 1.4 SE MPI.

This model doesn't have MDI functionality to control iPods etc.

Can anyone advise how much a dealer will charge to fit this?

Obviously MDI will enable better control of the iPod, but is the sound quality any better compared to feeding the sound into the car stereo via the the aux in port?

Thanks in advance,

dagi

You will have a 3.5mm aux socket for MP3 players etc all you need is 3.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack lead.

I think the part number for the lead is ZGB 000 O35 595A hope it hleps

One is digital the other analogue.

Cheers for the replies so far, although both have told me nothing I didn't already know (but thanks anyway!)

What I'm seeking to find out is:

a) how much will it cost for a dealer to supply and install a Mobile Device Interface (MDI)?

and

B) will the the resulting sound quality be any better than using my ipod via the auxillilary input and a 3.5 mm jack?

Thanks in advance.

Of course MDI will be better than the analogue aux. As I said it is digital.

What the MDI port gives you is flexability with your music and in my view is worth it and it will charge your Ipod.

I added it to my Elegance even though I could stream my music via Bluetooth from my Iphone. I have my music on a portable hard drive permanently sitting in and connected to the port and works very well - the drive is 500g and cost about £40 and the most difficult thing was to convert the drive format from NTFS to FAT32.

Can you have it added before it goes into production. factory fitted £175 Dealer fitted loads more

Why? A search on google with keywords like "format, fat32, windows" will give you plenty of help how to do it. In my case a little utility helped me with the task.

Factory fitting isn't an option, the car is due this week and I don't want to delay it.

I will get a quote for a dealer to fit an MDI unit, but I'm expecting it to be prohibitively expensive. I should be able to use the aux port, which will be ok although not as good as having a digital feed.

Thanks for all the replies.
