just got back from my mufflerectomy

Featured Replies

hey all, just came back from welsh coast customs (local powerflow dealer)...i no cheesy name right! Well anyway just got back from having a mufflerectomy done and to be honest its not as good as i thought and to start i never expected the famous owl noise with my mods its just the general sound of the exhaust. Driving home i couldnt really tell the difference between before and after, it does sound different when reving at a stand still, you can definitely hear a deeper throughtier sound and what sound like the turbo whiring but for driver pleasure i found no difference. Just happy i only payed £60 for it and the new oval tip does freshen the rear end up abit.

Was that £60 standard cost? (no discount for previous relations etc..) As Welsh Coast would be my first point off call for a mufflectomy, only 5 minutes form my house.

I'd be looking at twin round pipe though, do they have many options?

Original sized pipe or 2.5 version?

its because they are crap that's why you noticed no difference. Absolute waste of time

Have to agree.

no discount it was standard price i just walked in previous friday i asked how much to remove my back box and have just a pipe replacing it with a new tip and he said £60 with a the 4 inch oval that i chose but i did ask about other pipes and he said certian pipes will be abit more expensive but not alot maybe 5-10 depending on choice. they have loads to choose from just have to order them in thats the only bad bit. ohh yer and the took about 30 minutes to do it wich was very good.

i decided to stay standard size so its the same bore from cat back. but i think if and when go full system after other mods like hybrid etc i will up the size for sure.

sort of agree, kind of wish i saved for a full system but at the end of the day it was £60 quid and my old tail pipe was knackerd so i am happy in some ways.

yeah well thats exactly what i thought, for £50 (what i paid) which is similar to you, it seemed worth it. To be perfectly honest, i dont see why people rave about them. I had a decat to and it was just far to loud when you gave it some. If i was you i would cut the cat out that part of the exhaust and weld in some pipe so you have a cheap decat (could even be done with a failed one from the scrappy) thats what i did and loved it. Then just get a miltek cat back from awesome as i think they are about £300 which isnt bad i dont think. Plus the cat works exactly as a normal decat would be would cost £20 not about £160+

Just what id do though :) you dollar fella. Your car looks well on you sig pic btw ;)

I have done that before with the cat on one of my old cars to make a decat and like you said saved and saved me over 100 quid. to be honest i plan on having this car a good few years so will more than likley try a few different things out in time. cheers for the sig comment just need to sort out the huge arch gap next.

Yeah the arch gap is worryingly high on standard cars, but im sure it will look good when its dropped :)

Good luck with the future mods dude :sun:

I was lucky. After few over £100 quotes for this mod, managed to pick up a full vrs exhaust with this mod already done for £54 delivered.

Bargain

Finally got the pipe fitted and kinda glad i managed to get hold of full exhaust with mod already done. I like the throatier sound but when you put foot down it sounds a bit tinny. Dont know if its just mine, ill leave it in few months then maybe put old exhaust back on. :(

I always assumed it was a waste of money tbh.

Looked at all videos on youtube liked the sound,

also saw the one by thor racing on leon cupra tdi they showed it added bhp and torque on their dyno.

Thought why not for price glad i didnt knacker my own exhaust doing it though.

Will the mufflerectomy affect a std turbo, as in put more pressure on it and end up blowing it, (something ive read/heard) as im thinking about doing my own.

From what i read that only applies if cats removed aswell.

Ive heard the same aswell, price isnt too bad, although i would of had a full custom system.

Turbine should be fine as you still have the car and center box (is there one on the vrs actually)

I've heard mufflerectomy decreases performance.

No centre box on the vrs just cat and back box. i have not noticed any diffrence maybe a tad bit smoother through the revs but no drop in performance. im going to a rolling road day in april so we will soon see.

I noticed a drop in performance on my Ibiza PD130 with a mufflerectomy, so eventually got a Milltek turbo-back with decat and it felt much better

i did feel a decrease in performance with mine as you say you've heard stevobeavo

ive got a mufflerectomy on mine with a 2.5" pipe and still got a cat (not the original one) and ive noticed a slight performance increase, sounds alot better too so how come uve all noticed crap performance yet mine has increased, is alot smoother and the car just feels alot better overall?

There is a video on YouTube of a company tunning a pd150 leon and they do a before and after a mufflerectomy run and it gains 7bhp. Not saying mufflerectomy 100% gives more power but it certainly felt like it made a difference to mine, made a difference to Nicks now its fitted to his and also seems to have made power gains on a rolling road too.

Has anyone had this done with 2.25" pipe keeping original tip. Cos mine sounds alright till foot goes down and it sounds blowy.
