How many brake light bulbs?

How many brake light bulbs?

My coil light is flashing, so checked my brake lights but not sure how many there should be?

I have one on each side and the high level one.

I know there are 8 side lights (4 each side) making a c Shape but do any of these double as brake lights other than the two that are already?

Your maxidot display should tell you which bulb has blown.

The coil light you describe - is it the glow plug light? The bulb failure light is a little bulb symbol with a '!' in it. This will illuminate orange along with a message on the dash. Go to 'vehicle status' and any failed bulb info will be there.

Traditionally, the flashing glow plug light is indeed a blown brake light or a failed switch on the brake pedal but I would expect it to show on the maxidot.

The top bulb in each cluster acts as a rear light and brake light, I think it runs at different voltages rather than being dual filament.

I changed both when one popped last year and I don't recall the glow lamp on the dash, just something along the lines of 'brake light right failed' or similar.

Sorry, it is the glow plug light.

All my brake lights are working then if only one on each side is a brake light.

Looks like it could be the brake light switch then. Will get it changed.

Cheers

If your brake lights are working, surely the switch must be ok?

I've just had a quick check of the Superb owner's manual and found the following on page 32:

('Warning light' refers to the glow plug coil BTW)

If the warning light begins to flash while driving, a fault exists in the engine control.

The engine management system selects an emergency programme which enables you

to drive to the nearest specialist garage by adopting a gentle style of driving.

The following text will be displayed in the information display: Engine fault: Workshop!

Can you get it scanned with VCDS to find out exactly what is going on? At least you'll know for sure before throwing parts at it.
