Lakes Wild Animal Park

Featured Replies

I had a voucher for the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, so tootled off there today to have a look. It's very nice, although it wasn't a great day. It didn't rain though, which was a bonus, and surprising for the Lakes! you can hand feed the Giraffes which is quite sweet, people were giving them sprouts and carrots and they curl their tongue round them!

I took my camera along so here a few of the photos. It is quite nice that quite a few of the animals are accessible, the emus were just wandering on the path, you can go in with the penguins and there is a way to photograph the tigers without glass or wire in the way.

I didn't actually mean to watermark these, I was messing about testing it out a few weeks ago and for some reason it's added it to this export! I didn't notice til after - duh! Nevermind :)

Great pics, Loz

We love South Lakes - have been there for about the last three years at Easter when we've stayed at Bowness

In fact that reminds me.......where's that booking form

Some brilliant pictures.

Been a few years since i went there. Might have to go this year if i get chance.

Nice pics, meant to go there when we were up in Keswick towards the end of last year but never did, will definitely have to make a point of going.

Apparently it's free all through February each year, so it's definitely worth a trip if you like that kind of thing and you're after something to do! Just a shame about the weather up there, especially at this time of year!!

Some cracking pictures there, well done. My niece would love to go there and feed the giraffes as she is giraffe mad, her favourite animal lol.

Oh the Giraffes are adorable!! One of them was absolutely MASSIVE!! I've never seen such a big Giraffe! The way they eat is amazing, big long tongue comes and curls round the food. Although loads of stupid people were snatching their hand away as soon as it's tongue arrived, meaning it couldn't get a good grip and dropped it! Why bother if you are going to be silly about it? It wont hurt!

Oh, also, just want to add, these were shot with a damn cheap Tamron lens, and I am constantly amazed at how good it is. I've used it at a zoo before and got some brilliant pics! One of my favourite ever photos infact, this one:

Full high res version obviously being more detailed and impressive!

Great pics, I've been there a few times and it really is a nice place to visit. I love the fact the Lemurs just roam the park with the public lol in the summer it makes eating outside of the cafe so much more entertaining when you get to watch cafe staff running around with water pistols shooting Lemurs off peoples food.
