Cost of getting old car seats reupholstered

Featured Replies

I was thinking of getting the seats in my old car (1976 127) reupholstered and I was wondering about the likely cost. Anyone had anything similar done? Ideally I'd like leather but I'm guessing that pushes the cost up a fair bit.

When I had my pimped honda prelude I bought second hand leather seats for it and got the battered leather panels replaced. It worked out that 6 panels, a full leather colour blend and condition and 4 colour ebroided Mugen emblems came to £400. That was all 4 seats aswell. So for a total upholster ur looking at atleast £1k

My Dad and I completely refurbished and re-upholstered the seats in my '76 VW Beetle a couple of years ago. Fabric kits were available to suit the different seat styles for the Beetle and cost around £150, for the rear and both front seats. I was probably about the same again for new padding and felt covering for the spring bases, so say the cost of materials was about £300. We did the strip down and repairs to the seat frames ourselves, then built the seats up with new padding and covers. Look out for small cracks in the welds on the seat frames.

You could probably use the existing seat fabrics as patterns for new ones, carefully cut the stitching at the piping around the old seat-covers and you have the patterns already. It would be possible to find someone to make up new covers for you and you would be able to get or manufacture / improvise new padding from upholstery suppliers. (We got some bits of padding from a local bloke that specialised in re-upholstering household chairs).

We need a side bolster panel repairing on SWMBO's Mini and were quoted £100-£150 for that.

Guess for a full leather re-trim is going to be close to £1k.
