replacing broken plastic tailgate trim

Featured Replies

right, as you can see in the pic, my tailgate plastic trim that houses the lock and the numberplate lights has a crack right in the centre around the lock, split clean in 2

i was going to plastic weld and fill it, but its going to be so damn fiddly and delicate as its so thin in the cracked areas, i just want to replace it

its a 99 V-reg, so im guessing thats pre-facelift? iv noticed on later models the trim seems a different shape?

also, is the trim the same on estate and hatchback models, so long as they are from the same era? iv tried asking skoda this, but they either couldnt or wouldnt tell me, just gave me the part number and a price for a new 1, but at £40, im not really enthusiastic to hand over that much cash to then still have to paint and fit it lol

Pre-facelift yes.

Also, you'll need a specialist plastic primer for it, otherwise the paint will crack and fall off.

No idea about the other points though.

right, so its pre-facelift, so that means it needs to be off a pre-2000 car? when they pop up on ebay, people seem to list them by the year, with really unclear pics lol

im assuming the trim is just bolted on from the back, so just need to drop the internal trim down to gain access to the fixings?

painting isnt a problem, i do car body smart repairs for a living. really isnt much need for a plastic primer on solid plastic trims like this, just a decent 2k primer does the job.

the badge is a mess i know, but iv got to repaint the tailgate as soon as i get chance, due to scratches, so intend to wait until then, and fit new badges after
