Put deposit on low mile (27k) L&K at Horton Skoda in Lincoln.

I am now aware to check for damp carpets!

What else should I be aware of?

I wouldn't just check for damp carpets as such - the carpets are very thick and the water ingress can be quite advanced before the carpets appear damp. Instead look for any of the following not working properly:

Interior lights (including door mirror lights)

Central locking

Boot release switch

Any smell of dampness or misting inside the car

I think some of the 2.5TDI engines had problems with the camshafts, where the metal used was too soft and a lot of them broke. I think this was fixed post-2005 but check for any excessive knocking or rattling from the engine.

Goes without saying to get the pollen filter seal and drain bungs sorted as soon as you get the car but otherwise they are pretty bullet-proof cars and should go on for a long time.
