First tank average above 70mpg

Featured Replies

I used to get over 700 miles per tank in my Greenline II... then I bought something faster. :)

A horse & cart I expect.

You eco guys are going to give Skoda a bad name ......

Soon there'll be jokes about diesel Skodas being driven by old fogies doing 60 behind the lorries in lane 1 on the motorway for the slipstream effect to save money.

that'll be me then :giggle::kiss::rock:

that's amazing mpg especially given the amount of threads and posts moaning about poor mpg with the 1.6CR.

I had my car remapped earlier this week and i have already noticed my mpg up from high 50s to low 60s using regular diesel.I am driving from Sunderland to Eastbourne 330miles today so i can see if i can get anywhere near 70mpg by using V Power,i just wish i had a 6th gear.

I often wish I had a lower 5th gear.

My GL1 is brilliant on motorways with a low fifth gear but pay the price with less than perfect ranges below 60.

If they had made standard ratios with a 6th speed it would have been perfect

Cr is long geared, perfect for the motorway personally doesn't warrant a 6 cog but I get 64 mpg regularly in mine, the trick is not to look at the gear indicator IMO

Agreed.

My car has a very tall 5th gear it feels somewhere between a 5th and 6th gear. The main advantage with the 5th gear is its flexible i can do 100miles on motorway without changing down, even when having to slow right down to 40 or 50 for roadworks etc the car still pulls well back up to 70/80mph but then i reach for another gear probably because its such a long gear it feels instinctive to reach for another gear.

I guess non of the fabia's now come with a 6spd gearbox

Mine wont do that. Go below about 50 and you have to be in fourth. 6th is like an overdrive or 'motorway' gear. 70mph is 2000rpm. Under 60 I am in 4th gear everywhere. A six speed box would have been perfect . Car still easily exceeds 70 mpg at normal motorway speeds. Pretty sure my PD Greenline uses then same box as the new CR engine. Non Greenline PD 5th gear is the same as my fourth gear

Who did you get the remap the 1.6? And how much did it cost?

If most of my journeys were 80 miles at a steady 60-65mpg when my car was in a good mood based on my few longer journeys I would get at least high 60's mpg on normal Shell Fuelsave diesel so if I then got a 10% mpg increase with premium diesel that would push the mpg over 70.

If these long runs kept the DPF clear so it never did an active regen, rather than them occurring at 250-300 mile intervals followed by a 12% mpg drop for 100+ miles, the long term average would then too be high 60's with normal fuel and maybe 70+ with premium fuel.

i managed an indicated 64.7mpg yesterday over a 380mile drive with about 20miles of town driving, running on regular Shell diesel with a small dose of 2 Stroke added.

Little update,

Next tank was pretty much the same at 70.1mpg

Just finished another tank and managed 73.6mpg on a tank refil, though the computer agreed reporting a 73.5mpg tank average.

I have to say, now it's got 15,000 plus miles on it I love the 1.6cr engine more and more.

Quiet, smooth and on many motorway runs I get the 80mile average well over 80mpg - best I have seen is 83.6 (indicated on the computer of course but as you can see by the last tank it's pretty accurate).

Very pleased I went for the fabia

Should be 70.1 in the first line - iPhone fat finger syndrome

how close do you need to drive to be in the slip stream? and how much can you save

Little update,

Next tank was pretty much the same at 79.1mpg

good! 15,000 miles will be run in , and loose enough to give good figures

How's the Nissan boss ?

I was refering to the Yeti that replaced the Greenline II Estate. Liking it a lot actually. 170CR diesel and 4x4. :)

Nippy, but less economical. :D

What's wrong with that?

Not holding anyone up.

I did that for a while to see what I could get and fill-to-fill on real worked out figures I averaged 78mpg over three whole tanks.

I wanted to see how close I could get to the combined figure of 83.something Skoda quote.

you should be a living advert for Skoda as you are getting great economy.I bet there are 1000s of 1.6cr owners who can only dream of getting those kinds of returns judging by the amount of posts moaning about poor mpg.

I think it comes down to driving style there are a lot of people who drive diesels like they are petrol then wonder why they get lower than expected mpg.

When you can get economy in the 70s it does make some of these expensive hybrids seem pointless.

Im averaging 61.4 (per tank...according to Road trip app..in car says 68.2 )in a GL2 estate with 8k on the clock...admitedly its only 3 months old so not run in.

I do regurarly average mid 70s and have got a couple of 84s out of longish journeys (49 miles)....Im still quite happy with it as I can nip over into Ireland and still get deisel at £1.29 (after conversion)...my problem is that in Northern Ireland we have 5 streatches of motor way...and I only see one stretch of one for about 12 miles (out of 71 on route to the office).

On the very plus side, even when I am thrashing it, due to a sleep in or just running late, I am still getting mid 50s from it.

Makes a hell of a difference form my old 2.0 petrol Avensis....37 ish MPG!!!!

Very well done on the high mileage though...do you use any driving rechniques to get this?

Last two tanks were 77 & 81 (according to Road Trip)...both done on mostly a roads...get in!

Which car mansars?

Which car mansars?

GL2 Estate

I fancy a Monte Carlo diesel too, maybe next time. If they did an Estate I would have got one with a 1.6CR engine :D
