Question on roof rails

Featured Replies

I am thinking to order roof rails for my car.

superskoda is having a sale on silver rails for 230.

Is it better to order those and have them fitted here, or just buy from local Skoda dealer.

Also, has anyone fitted rain deflectors? Do they affect wind resistance and mpg?

On my Roomster, the roof rails are black and factory fitted. I thinks it look good when I have panoramic roof glass that are black/heavy tinted.

For the wind deflectors.. My personal though about them, it is for old people :-)

For those who smokes pipe or cigarettes :-)

Ok definitely no wind deflectors then. I thought it might be useful if the windows have to be opened a crack to keep the car from steaming up, but that might have just been an issue with my last car then.

No panoramic roof on my car, therefore I don't think either black or silver will look bad. Just looking to get whichever is most reasonably priced.

Wind deflectors get a  from me. I don't smoke a pipe or cigarettes :giggle: I'm old enough to know better but not that old ;)

I would go for some Team HEKO ones rather than the Superskoda ones. Similar price but I'm really impressed with their quality and fit. Great for when it's been raining and you open a window, they stop the interior getting soaked.

No noticeable increase in noise or decrease in MPG.

Pretty speedy delivert from J_and_J automotive too  dead easy to fit.

I like my wind deflectors because we can leave windows open a bit for the dogs when it's raining without getting the seats wet.

You won't have a problem with steaming up as the air conditioning deals with it just fine.

If you are having roof rails you need to get them fitted as a factory option. To retro fit is a major job, I was quoted circa £800 by the nearest Skoda dealer, although I suspect you may find someone who will do it a little cheaper.

Yes, was quoted similar.. I will not be getting roof rails then, at this point definitely not worth the investment. May get 2 rear tyres instead as the current ones are a bit worn. Not too fond of the brand either.. Miranza Hero.

The front ones are Uniroyal Rainexperts... might just get two of the same as they seem to be decent for the money.

Ordered rain deflectors, leather steering cover and Dakar seat covers. :D Still ambivalent on a bumper guard to protect it when loading stuff into the back.

The problem with the Roomster is that AFAIK there are no third party racks for carrying loads on the roof if you have no roof rails. This is why it is very important having them factory fitted, Skoda dealers should always tell customers!

I went to the dealer to get an idea of pricing. They said they will not retrofit roof rails not purchased from an authorized skoda dealer, but the quote for rails, fitting kit and labor costs was 370. Not cheap, but not nearly as much as I thought they would quote. Still, won't go through with it just yet. Still recovering from the initial purchase outlay :whew:

Super delivery, got a bit confused when trying to track it as i thought it came from in the UK, but still only 4 or 5 days to arrive.

I think they look brilliant. gives the car a bit more classiness without looking like bling. Not like much can be seen because of the stupid tree reflection...

Are you thinking about this one?

I was thinking about buying one for superskoda. The Skoda dealers in Denmark are selling this for about 130 euro for the bumper protection and installation.

And it cannot be that hard to install it my self.

I was thinking of that one too, however 130 seems rather overpriced as superskoda is selling what they say is an OEM for 35 pounds, i think.

Interesting...let us know how much noise at high speed :sun:

Tested up to 75mph, have not noticed any additional wind noise. Of course the 1.9tdi engine makes a good amount of noise too, so it might just be that I can't hear the wind noise over the engine :)
