Rear bumper removal

Featured Replies

Hi,

my Octavia is a 2007, means a pre-facelift estate. It has at the lower end of the rear bumper all the way round from wheel to wheel a black plastic spoiler (as Skoda calls it). I managed to damage that one, how was lucky enough not to damage anything else... :whew:

It's cosmetic damage, but anyway..

I got a new one and thought it should be easy to fit. The screws at the lower end are easy of course, but where it meets the bumper (the painted one), it is cliped into it at every 10cm or so...just excuse my lousy English  .

I struggle to get the spoiler detatched from the bumper and was wondering:

1. Is there a good trick as of how to get the spoilers clips out of the bumper without doing damage?

2. Does the bumper nee to be removed?

3. In that case, is there a description somewhere about how to remove the bumper ( I did a search, but without success)?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the stupid typing error. :wall: The car is a 2007 model. Have corrected it in the original post.

Hi Mike,

Thanks so much for that you took the time to provoide the information. Please excuse my ignorance, but I still don't really understand what is the best way get the said spoiler romoved from the bumper.

If I have to take the bumper of, it would be good to know where it is fixed to the car body so I do not have to pull everything apart on the inside that prevents me from seeing it.

On the Octavia I I once remove the rear bumper and found very simple, on this one I'm not so sure...

I have the Heynes manual, but this task might just be too basic for them to bother to descibe it..

I watched my towbar being fitted and the guy removed the bumper (and the crash bar and lowered the exhaust etc ...).

I don't know if this will be any help but...

1. In the boot he pulled trim away from both rear light clusters and removed some screws to release the clusters. This exposed two rubber pin thingys in the top of the bumper previously concealed by the lights - he pulled out these riubber thingys.

2. He slid on his back to unbolt the fixings along the bottom edge of the bumper. He then removed the bolts holding the mud flaps and the bumper arch to the the underlying metal work.

I think he was then able to slide the bumper backwards and remove it from the car.

He did remove more boot trim but I think that was only necessary so as to access the wiring but I apologise if I've missed something out.

Haynes manual page 11.6 has description of removing the rear bumper.

You are right Mike, I see that now. I looked in the index of the book and it is not mentioned there (at least not as "Rear bumper"). I then flipped through the section "Bodywork and fittings" but must have overlooked it. Shame on me  . Thanks for pointing me to it!

Chris,

thanks for sharing that information. I'm not sure if I would have stood beside and looked at the operation if I would have been able to do such writeup!

I think I'm getting the picture now how it works.

Again, thanks for all help you provided.
