I've gone and got one

Featured Replies

Hi All

Thanks to all those who answer my queries on a previous topic. Went out today to sample the other car in my thoughts which was a 2.2 tdci 2009 Mondeo Titanium X Sport. The car was great, very smooth and good performance from the diesel along with loads of toys.....however I just couldn't get the test drive of the Octavia Vrs out of my head from the day before. Granted it feels like a step down in terms of age, equipment and luxury feel however it drove brilliantly, I was very impressed with the ride quality especially. Hence I put down the deposit today and will collect next week!!

It's a 57 Plate 2.0TFSI with 68,500 miles and service history, has rear electric windows and 18inch alloys (forgot to check whatever a jumbo box is)

It was up for £7,499 and in the end I managed to get them down to £7,400 but insisted that they complete a cambelt and water pump change for that price, they relucantly agreed.

Only dissapointment is the lack of a decent stereo and no maxidot or zenons, bit of a come down from my current car which has tons of toys however I am really looking forward to getting it and enjoy the drive!!

So hello to all and thanks for your assistance so far! While i'm here can anyone advise the servicing options? it previously had variable servicing whatever that is? Is it generally ok to use a good independant garage as I already know a trustworthy one?

Thanks

Mark

Think you made the right choice. Planning any mods?

Looks like it has xenons pal. Headlight washers are in the front bumper :)

Congratulations on the right choice and of course picking the best possible colour for a true VRS :bandit:.

Jumbobox is the arm rest between front seats that lifts open to give a storage compartment that would have a lil pull lever to open a small vent hole allowing the air con to circulate into it making it a cooler. The word Jumbo is not really justified its not all that big but glove box can do exact same thing.

Variable servicing can be checked I believe by turning the odo reset button on turning key to on position (not 100% sure but think I read that before) on variable the car will not require the normal service every 10K or 365 days whichever comes first but will decide itself based on how car is driven up to something like 18100 miles and 2 years max ish. This can be changed at any time but long life oil would need to be in it if you want it call them up and make them do it too might be a good way to get a cheeky free service.

Just to air on caution to avoid possible disappointment my friend has a 57 plate with the washer covers on bumper but no washers and no xeons.

ps. looking mint for a 57 plate with over 60K must have been treated well great find enjoy it and get more pics when you collect.

Oops il shut up then lol!

My pre FL Octavia Elegance had the (working) headlight washers but no Xenon

You got me excited there for a minute lol!

Yes it's in very good condition indeed and the drive was great so hopefully nothing immediate needs doing.

Haven't really got any mods planned as it seems so good the way it is and I want to retain fairly good mpg whilst still having a bit of fun. If I was to do anything it would be the columbus upgrade I think and maybe some better headlight bulbs if they are standard, not sure what the lights are like on the Octavia but i've been used to excellent adaptive (move with steering wheel) xenons on the avensis. I have been considering tinting the rear and rear side windows, not very dark but a more subtle smoked tint, would like to find an example of what it looks like first. The windows at standard don't seem very tinted at all. I think keeping the vehicle in good order is my priority.

oh and I love the colour!

Thanks

Then either it isn't a vRS or if it is then its not a UK spec car or its had a new front bumper fitted.

Headlight washers on a UK sourced original pre or post facelift vRS mean one thing - it has xenon headlights.

I'm not sure how your mates vRS has the washer caps but no washers because the caps attach to the actual washers, unless he's glued them on to fool people/MOT tester that his aftermarket HID's are genuine xenon's/legal!

The definitive check is to look to the left of the headlight switch next to the dash illumination control. Xenon equipped cars do not get the manual headlight levelling knob (as they are self levelling), non xenon equipped cars do.

Nice looking vRS, best colour too!

I'm getting excited now! It's not listed in the spec so I assumed it didn't have them, i must say I didn't try them so I can't be sure, hopefully i'll have a nice suprise in store then

Thanks for the pic, that looks good. I do prefer the more subtle tints!

That's just like my old one - one of the best colours and it looks like it's been looked after.

It certainly seemed like it had be cared for and appreciated. Just hope that turns out to be the case. Actually looking forward to Skoda ownership which i never would of said 15 years ago. I've always be mad about jap cars and still love them but it's exciting to have a bit of a change in what seems to be a very capable car.

Thanks for all the responses.

Looks fantastic and really does appear to have been well looked-after. Hope it goes well for you.

You bought the one from Sandles! Sounds like youre quite close to me mark! Glad we were of assistance to you mate! Enjoy

Yes it is the one from Sandles, did you get to see it?

I'm from Horsford just north of Norwich (near the airport).

I didnt but my mate did. He said it was a good example but he ended up with a leon cupra r. Im the other end, live just over sutton bridge on the A17. Bought my car from a briskoda member near you. They had that vRS up for 7800 so thats not a bad deal at all. Congrats Mark

Good choice ;) looks like it has xenons.

I have a limo tint probably too dark for some people
