Exhaust sounds ****

Featured Replies

Recently had mufflerectomy fitted to my car, standard size pipe with original tip, did this after to listening to nearly every youtube video and seeing the video by thor racing.

Problem is that it sounds nice on start up and upto about 2000rpm but between and about 3500rpm it sounds shocking, real tinny sound like its blowing, then after 3500rpm just get loud growl again.

any ideas what could be causing this as its doing my head in.

Only thing I can think of is maybe exhaust got slight leak as they had trouble fitting to back of cat, or maybe boost leak on turbo piping, would this cause it?

I will try to sort video and show what I mean.

Get the standard exhaust refitted, simples! And save up for a proper exhaust, Piper, Milltek.

The ones i`v heard in real life sound nothing like the videos do. Awful drone, no tone to them. Each to their own though.

Don't see 'em mentioned as often as when I first joined the site but my

Blueflame has been spot on. Not loud though until over 3500 then it gets

its growl on. B)

Mine sounds ok outside of the car nice growl not blowy at all i have standard size pipe but with a oval tip so the gases flow striaght out, i dont kbiw if that will make any difference. cant hear it really inside the car till up in the higher half of the revs wich i supose is good when driving everyday.

Mine had twin tip, sounded great but mine was 2.5".

You say they joined it to the cat? are you sure as thats then a cat back system not a mufflerectomy? they should have joined it just after the rear beam?

THIS IS EXHAUST AFTER SOME SANDING DOWN TO GET LITTLE SPOTS OF RUST OFF AND SPRAYED ALUMINIUM SILVER WITH HIGH TEMP ANTI RUST PAINT.post-68315-0-24571500-1331125705_thumb.jpg

tidy work.

alot different from mine, i just had my 2.5" fitted to my original exhaust just behind the rear axle.

not alot can be done with yours, if it sounds crap then thats the way it is. i only know mine sounded good and the video on youtube shows its true note.

They use a reducer on the joint then to take it to 2.5"?

Thats it yes.

Found problem. The weld around the pipes in original tip is crap. Got gaps basically think its leaking into it and acting as amplifier as the tip material is really thin.

Long term replacing with single pipe and oval tip (still work out cheaper than having it done to my own exhaust, thankyou ebay), short term got bout inch of steel wool at ebd of tip held in by mesh. Pic later

Save up for a proper exhaust instead of some botched eBay cr@p !

Milltek FTW

It was full standard exhaust with mufflerectomy already done. £40. Milltec is what £300 plus bit of difference really for something that sounds same and same performance. Only a sport cat could really make a difference.

Jetex would be the one I would go for

Get them cheaper than Milltek , no issues with the Jettex either
