Upgrading speakees help needed

Featured Replies

I'm in the process of upgrading my speakers and I am unsure what size speakers I need for rear doors in my Octy VRS 2.0TFSI.

now I know that I need mk5 golf speakers adaptor rings?

I also know I need 6.5" speakers for front but haven't got a clue what i need for rear?

Is it 13mm I need or can I get same adaptors for rear as front and fit 6.5" components?

Thanks in advance

I think you should really be looking at a two way system such as this;

http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/products/25/131/201/TS-E170Ci/index.html

The issue on the Octy is the tweeters which are basically rubbish - too bright and mounted in the wrong place. If you can, mount the tweeters on the dash or A-Pillar - ie; move them away from your ears!

Will those speakers fit rear with golf mk5 speaker adaptors? Only reason I'm really replacing is my rear n/s speaker, tweeter or cross over is gone and both just crackle with no sound.

Still hasn't answered question about rear speakers? I have gone for some cheap component speakers. I won't dare say name as no one would of heard of them.

Front and rear are same size.

I would got for 2 sets of components as suggested above.

The rears aint the same size as the fronts in my 2009 vrs estate. They are around 13cm in rear.

I will be changing mine in the near future and so have bought mdf rings to fit a set of 13cm components when i decide which ones im going for. Got to be honest the standards in mine are not as bad as i was expecting them to be but as i had the car apart i have run all the cabling required to amp the 2 sets of components in the boot :)

I had a rear one replaced in my 2010 Hatch and it was same as front.

Yea heard a few people saying their the same and amazes me that the estate would have different but mine does. Anyone else know if they just ran out of speakers with my car and chucked some smaller ones in lol?!

I just disconnected the rear tweeters and left the standard mid / bass rears in. Sounds great. Once the tweeters are disconnected and the dynamatt is in, you can drive the rears pretty hard and they sound ok. The rears are only there to fill out the sound a bit. All the detail and sound-stage is from the fronts. I'd recommend trying disconnecting the rear tweeter first and see if that fixes your problem.

There not the same size, rears are smaller.

Thank god for that, i was starting to think i was loosing my mind and had bought the spacer rings for no reason at all lol.

The good thing about the mdf rings is that they are to fit a 13cm speaker so buying new is easy and have enough width to be easy fitted into the holes in the metal panel. Also a massive improvement on sound quality with the speakers mounted onto a good solid surface.

Wondering if anyone has fitted inifity kappa or reference components in theirs as have a set in my mk1 leon that would go nicely in the octavia and for the price their sound is very good. My worry is getting the tweeter to fit (smaller is fine but it could be a pain if their to big)?

PS im not bothered about them running on low level input as have a converter so will be changing the speak outputs on the Bolero to RCA's

I stand corrected then.

I was certain the fronts and rears were the same size.

Speaker size is different but hole in the door is the same. So you can fit 6.5" speakers with the golf mk5 adaptors. I have my rear door card of and have removed speaker and measured up and i am sure 17mm(6.5") will fit.

I have bought some of these:

I have adaptors and rivet gun along with some sound deadening so will keep everyone updated.

Just an update.

Managed to fit 6.5" speakers in rear doors with help from sak 3103 speaker adaptor spacers.

I went for some jbl gto coaxial speakers. Didn't fancy drilling tweeter housing. I have to say the jbl gto are excellent and at £45 from halfords they were best sounding speakers which didn't distort when wacking up the volume.

I kept oem tweeters fitted as I do have a subwoofer so all is good.

I was going to fit ground zero speaker components in the front but I think I am going to leave it. Main reason is system sounds superb with bigger rears and a sub.

Decided against the coaxials as they just never sounded right.

So fitted some 6.5" Ground Zero Components which are bloody sepurb speakers and fit beter than most i have seen.

As shown in pictures rear doors will easily fit 165mm or 170mm Speakers with the 3103 adaptors. Only issue is making sure tweeter is small enough! In my case it was splittable enabling the whole outer casing to be removed and just left with tweeter as shown in picture

Any tips on how to remove the rear door card first?
