links to better front speakers or suggestions please fellows.

Featured Replies

I hate to ask but as usual I can't find anything on the search.

I want to upgrade the front speakers in the fab but I don't know the size I need to replace with.

Anyone got a link to some good replacements or suggestions.

Also, got to disable that tweeter in the rear door, is it the same ad the octy to disable?

Thanks pieman. I thought the door card had to come off, just hoping for a quicker solution.

I've got Alpine SPS 171A components in mine, they are an old set (but never used) but there will be a more up to date version I'm sure.

What size diameter speakers will I need?

What size are them Alpine's Tech1e?

Don't upgrade speakers sound pants unless amped? I mean, just off an aftermarket hu the standard speakers being slightly over powered would sound better than aftermarket speakers underpowered?

I once had a set of 17cm comps ran off my alpine hu and they were really flat until I amped them!

If it were a straight up improvement I'll think about doing it, as I don't really want to faff with amps again :p

I have 2005 fabia which used to have leaky doors so any speakers will probably sound better, surely even un amped & on a standard head unit the alpines would sound better with more punch?

I agree, though on a higher(!?!) level... :)

If fitting 17cm componenets solidly and properly, fit a 2x150watt amp. 2x75 watts isn't enough IMO.

I have a Sony head unit and was planning/thinking of fitting speakers with amps (d70's or similar).

I can't work out if just fitting better door speakers will do the job??

Want to fit a sub also but need the boot space and those under seat subs look pretty carp.

I think I'm after some bass more than anything.

R.e a sub...don't be afraid to try an 8"! I had alpines type g 8" in a box before and packed a surprisingly good punch while being very unintrusive in the boot!

You're right vindaloo they do need that extra power :)

My components are running off the h/u and the sound is a massive improvement over the standard speakers. Running off a Sony H/U nothing to fancy. 12" sub in the boot.

No rattle from the doors, in fact less than when they were standard, this might have been from removing and refitting everything. May also to be with the mounting of the speakers in MDF etc.

Oh and you don't need to take the door trim off to disconnect the rear tweeters should you wish to. The panel just pops out and the plug pulls up from behind the trim.

As it says ontop of the speaker, 16cms.

Ok, so what's the standard setup?

Tweeters by the mirrors, tweeters in the back doors, speakers in the front doors and some really small speakers behind the rear seats?

What's the usual thing to upgrade?

Front speakers are most important. Rear speakers more for the rear passengers. First set of steps in order I would suggest are...

1. replace OE head unit. This can improve sound quality quite noticeably alone, and give you pre-outs to connect amps to in future,

2. If you want a bit more bass/low end, add amped subwoofer. Check on ebay for sales local to you, pick up only. You can sometimes pick up a good deal on a subwoofer as people will list 99p start, and local pick up means few people will bid. Many sellers end listings early if an item isn't being bid as they'd like which is annoying. Remember that you need an amp with a subwoofer, and wiring (power from battery to amp, ground from amp to chassis, speaker cable, rca phono cable, and remote power wire).

3. Front speakers are the most important for the driver. You want components as the tweeter is better in the stock location next to the mirror, than it is at the bottom of the door. Rear speakers are more for the benefit of passengers, and many purists would argue you simply don't need them at all if you have a decent pair of front speakers.

I have no speakers in the rear and sounds fine to me do I'd agree with the above.

Funny you say about ebay subs, I was winning a vibe sub for £5.50 for 3 days and now it's gone.

Now on the look out for another one, maybe an 8 inch.

Got the head unit in place.

On another note, just fitted a 1600 watt sub powered by 800 amp in my mate's gti and it's insane!!
