Service based on milage or age?!

Featured Replies

Hi all just got my new ish 1.2htp, it's only done 32000 miles and is in great condition (apart from the drivers side spring snapping this morning :S).

It has a full service history but lists the next service as a major at 40,000 however it also lists a date. I'm not sure wether to put it in for this servie now despite the fact that its 8000miles from it based on the date. What do people think?!

Whats the 40,000 service any way?

Air filter, pollen, fuel, sparks etc?!

Haynes doesen't list the pollen filter, but does add "check aux drive belt and power steering fluid level"( and as applicable ,auto transmission fluid) . ( Just says Petrol models)

( BTW , it's Haynes book 4376)

Great thanks for your reply. Does the Haynes have specific stuff for the 1.2? Or is more generic stuff for the petrol range?

Breaks down into Petrol/diesel , then into 1.2 and the two 1.4 engines( with engine codes) . i find it usefull even though I'm getting a bit ancient to do jobs that once would take me an hour or two . BTW- there's one for sale on here . FYI- under the boot carpet there's a list of kit factory fitted to your model, and if you search on here you'll find a decoder that tells you what they are, especially engine codes . But Haynes doesen't always list the easy ways.e.g - while ago I had a leak from my wash bottle.Haynes talkes about taking off front bumper. Some one here has a guide that only means removing wheel arch liner .

. BTW- there's a manual on here

In order to respond accurately you're going to have to tell us what other services it has had. Since it's a 2005 car it should by now have had at least 6 Annual Inspection services (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011) and the "40,000 mile" service should have been carried out in 2009 - since it equates to the four year one. You should also have had three brake fluid changes (2007, 2009, 2011). So over to you...

That's brilliant! Really useful! Off the top of my head its had 3 major services and regular interim bits although they aren't documented in the service book. Trying to decide whether to do the 40000 mile service myself or pop to a garage.

So not a full service history then. I'm not surprised - it's confusing.

If I went by date it's due but it sat unused by its previous owner due to ill health so it'll probably be a year or two before I reach the service mileage! Think ill probably just wait! Get a Haynes in the mean time too!

My car's 40,000 mile service was carried out last year at about 30,000 - plus in my case the cambelt
