Superb II Columbus Problem

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if this is the best place on the forum for this topic, but since I finally took delivery of my Superb today I'll stick it here! If any Mod/Admin wants to move it elsewhere, please feel free to do so (not that I could stop you anyway :D)

I have been trying to load the Pocket GPS World speed camera database using the info from http://rns510.posterous.com/tag/poinspect0r. Everything seemed to go well until I tried to find the poi category that I (thought) I had uploaded. I created a new database using a small sample of the zoned entries and copied it to an SD card. I then took the card to the car and loaded onto the hard disk as per the instructions in the link above. The Columbus unit then displayed a message to indicate that it had loaded the file and gave the instruction to remove the SD card. So far so good. But I cannot now see the new category in either the Nav or Map modes. Do any of you experts out there have any ideas about how to reveal the missing category, please.

Have you gone to the Map settings and looked through the categories - best way is to select Alphabetical view. Put a tick against the one(s) you want and they'll appear. You may need a re-boot first.

Thanks Ray - Err, how do I re-boot the system please? I'm currently overwhelmed with all the new information about this car :D

I installed several categories of personal POIs just over a week ago without problems, using various data sources loaded into poinspector. I used these instructions. The link you have doesn't appear to work so I couldn't compare them.

After loading into Columbus the POIs appeared when I selected Maps > Extras > Display POIs. Your personal POIs should appear at the very end of the list with whatever name you gave them in poinspector (you will need to scroll to the bottom). Simply select your POIs and a checkbox should show a tick and the icon for the POI category appears at the bottom of the screen. Up to 8 POI categories can be chosen for display on the map.

If you want to reset the Columbus...

Press these three buttons at the same time: “eject” + “<” + “>” and that should reboot the unit.

It never ceases to amaze me just how helpful people are on these forums! Many thanks for your very helpful replies, I have now managed to get the speedcam POIs loaded and visible. It seems that the RNS 510 unit is very sensitive when it comes to the directory structure; but by using exactly the info given in the link in Billyjim's post it is now working fine. Now all we need is to find a way to get audio warnings of proximity to POIs and we'll have it all sewn up! (Thinks, I wonder what operating system Siemens are using for these units - it would be good if it were a Unix-based one - but I guess it's a one-off special!)

Once more, many thanks, guys, for your informative responses.

Cheers,

Colin

Thanks for the heads-up! Looks like the BBC is getting touchy about YouTube clips. I'd have thought that the artists would want the publicity. :)
