Vibration at high speed

Featured Replies

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Have a 55plate vRS, 45k on the clock. Standard car.

Recently noticed steering wheel vibration at around 70mph and in 6th gear. So it only happens at motorway speed in top gear, if I drop to 5th it goes away and there's nothing else noticeable at all at lower speeds. It seems intermittent. It is only when accelerating. i.e. coasting from 80-70-60mph nothing is noticeable.

I recently swapped my summer tyres on standard vRS alloys back and changed all my brake discs and pads so of course wonder if they are related. The brakes have been top notch since so no worries from that point of view.

I considered wheel balancing issues but I wondered why the problem would only appear on accelerating in top gear at a specific speed.

Bit stumped with this one.

Of course I could just be imagining it!?

Sounds like a tracking/balancing issue, most places offer a free tracking check and this would be my suggestion. Failing that i've had a case where two seemingly identical tyres were in fact from different batches and would cause a similar issue so I chucked them on the back and it went away, might be worth checking also.

Sound more like wheel balance if its at high speeds cause u can drive through it get wheels balanced mate should sort it
