What lead are you using?

Did you do the test with the ignition on?

You need the correct drivers for your fake cable. Did you contact the seller?

(you wouldn't be having these issues if you'd bought a genuine cable!)

i was told in another post on this forum that cable would be ok,hence why i bought it

There is no problem with the cable you bought. It is NOT a fake cable - it is just a generic for use with VCDS-Lite.

My guess is that you have set the port option to USB. Take a look in device manager to see what serial port Windows assigned it and select that serial port.

yes its set to usb mate as thats what am using, have tryed the other usb ports.am not totaly sure what you mean, com1 com 2 etc?

Yes, Windows will assign a COM port to your lead. You could just try all the COM ports.

i did ,com 2 and 3 said port ok but no interface port 1 and4 said no port and no interface

Windows has probably assigned a COM port greater then 4. What version of Windows are you using?

Try right-clicking the My Computer icon and select Manage. Click on Device Manager and expand ports. What port is assigned to your lead?

should i be using lite instead??

i seen this

The full (non-Lite) version of VCDS is not compatible with 3rd party interfaces at all, even in shareware mode

Yes, your lead will only work with VCDS-Lite.

lol what a dafty!

ok one usb port uses com4 :D

got it to work now just need to register, thanks!

it was scaning and said needed to reg

It needs to be registered to do an auto-scan. You can open a module (e.g. Engine) and click on Read Fault Codes to get the fault codes for just that module.

alrigth lads thanks for the help,no codes found now i need to figure out why the engine is so weak..ill go back to other thread.

ah, the beauty and simplicity of buying the full licensed version. :D

@Joe67 - you might take the time to read the online manual for VCDS-Lite. It explains how to do things with the tool.

Also, take a look at the FAQ section of the website. There is all sorts of useful stuff in there. If you do need to register, your money isn't wasted. If you look at the upgrades section, you will see that you always have an upgrade path.
