Hi folks,

I'm Darren from Croydon, London and over the next days and months I'm looking at buying my first Skoda.

I currently drive a 2001 Focus MKI 1.6 Zetec which is poorly and so the time has come for a new set of wheels.

Tomorrow I'll be heading to my nearest dealer to have a look at the cars and the trims they have available and if possible take at least one car for a test.

In an ideal world I want (only from perusing the internet mind) the 1.8 TSI Estate in Black with the Elegance Trim as an Automatic but these seem fairly rare at my price range of sub £13k (everyone wants hatchback and silver!) so it might take me a while. I'm also considering the 1.4 as I've heard it is supposed to be a good engine.

This: I have driven it in the Yeti and it is a lovely motor: plenty of low down torque yet doesn't mind being worked either: wonderful wide powerband. I would deffo have this engine over a Diesel unless I did mega miles. I have not driven a 1.4 but I heard that it goes as no 1.4 has a right to in a biggish car so I don't think you would be short changed if you went with one

Popped to my local dealer today but it's only small so didn't have much to look at. Going to try another tomorrow and possibly another still on Monday.
