Felicia vibration/judder

Featured Replies

On the M1 on the way to Heathrow my R reg Felicia (80,000 approx) developped a judder accompanied by a ticking sound. Dropped down to about 50 and it became less noticeable but increased on applying gas. It lasted for 5 to 10 mins and then disappeared completely but returned about 20 mins later and again lasted for a few minutes. The road surface was pretty smooth on both occasions. At Heathrow I checked the wheel balancing weights which seemed fine and drove the 70 miles back home rarely going over 65. There was no repeat but I'm sure there is a problem somewhere. I'd appreciate any suggestions. The MOT and service is due next month but I guess forewarned is forearmed!

Can you be a bit more specific? Is the noise speed related? Or was it related to the speed of the engine?

The noise sounded like it was in sync with the judder not the engine. She has always made a ticking sound anyway which I believe might be related to the speedo cable but this noise seemed different. However, I couldn't detect the noise the second time the judder occured. The wheels were rebalanced about a year ago but I just took a look at the tyres and the offside one looks worn down on the shoulder. Could it be an alignment problem?

Hi, it wouldn't do any harm to check the alignment and ensure everything is in balance. A while back I had a similar type issue and I seem to remember it related to one or more of the front tyres. In my case, although still legal with nothing readily noticeable, both tyres were old and I'm sure changing did the trick. However that may not be your particular issue + make sure you've got the correct inflation. Doesn't sound like an mot issue?
