Carbon Mirror covers

Featured Replies

Just fitted them to the RS as the weather is, well, SUNNY ! :sun:

Got them from Superskoda a few weeks back and was just waiting for the right opportunity.

They are absolutely fantastic quality, obviously being real carbon, and a cinch to fit. They're VERY thin, so don't protrude.

I didn't take shots as I went because the carbon adhesive (black gunk) gets on your hands.

1) Clean the cars mirror housing with Isopropanol

2) Check the inside of the carbon part for blemishes. Mine were perfect & smooth.

3) Open the tube of adhesive and apply to the very edge of the cover.

4) Once the entire edge has a good spread of adhesive, use the rest on the main area. (there's 2 tubes)

5) Place the cover over the mirror housing and make sure the cover is pressed firmly everywhere.

6) Once the edge has lined up with the original housing edge, you will see there is surplus adhesive squeezed out.

7) Using a cloth wetted with Isopropanol, gently wipe away the surplus to give a smooth edge. You have to have patience

here. Go over the edge a few times to wipe the excess away. This leaves a nice 'black edge'. Turn the rag regularly.

8) Wipe the main body of the carbon over in case any adhesive from your hands accidentally made it on there.

9) Use some tape to apply to the outside corner of the cover. It doesn't stick out, but just belt & braces whilst it dries.

Nah, not the grille. Interior bits, like the vent surrounds, gear selector etc.

Oh, that reminds me, carbon parts thread
