Octavia estate rear side window, what are they?

Featured Replies

What are the orange lines/wires in the rear driver side window in the estate luggage area? They are just on one side, are they window heating elements; or in the specification there is reference to the roof aerial and diversity window aerial, whatever that is?

Thanks.

I suspect that they are the second aerial for the diversity function of the stereo.

Diversity is simply the ability of your stereo (or an external box feeding the stereo) to select the strongest signal for radio reception from the choice of two different aerials (the rear window and probably a roof aerial).

When the windscreen freezes over one morning, switch on the rear windscreen demister and see that the one you are talking about does nothing. That will confirm it is not a demister for you.

I'm trying to find out if it is possible to retro fit this glass & aerial to a pre-FL Octavia... Or convert the rear screen demister into a second aerial (I saw a 'How to' somewhere on the web, but can't find it now).

Antenna for the AM radio.

Any chance you could post a picture or two of the lines?

Thanks.

Taking a photo is harder than you might think, because of reflections and suchlike. So, instead, I drew you a picture ;) . Apologies for the standard of my artwork, but you'll get the general idea I hope.

This is what is etched onto the bottom L/H corner of the driver's (R/H) rear window on the estate (part number highlighted in red):

Splintex Solid Tempered

FYI, the part number etched onto the passenger (L/H) side is identical, except that the ".0" immediately under the actual part number is replaced with ".00"

If you google 43R 00048, you 'll find lots of relevant hits for spare parts etc.

Any, here's my artwork:

I'm still intrigued to know exactly what purpose this aerial component serves (as opposed to the roof-mounted aerial). I have a FL Scout with Bolero factory-fitted, but do not have SATNAV GPS. Someone suggested that it might be for AM reception. Does this sound feasible?

Your artwork is amazing - just what I needed to see. Thank you.

I'll look that if up later - many thanks. I've been quoted £106 + VAT, but that was a few years ago.

Perfectly feasible - see the links in the post above.

Thanks once again.

Its not an AM aerial its the diversity aerial. I would try and explain it but I'd be here forever. Its the reason the radio reception is so good.
