Interior rattle from the rear and knocking from the front.

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Quick ask from you all. I've had a brief poke about on here using rattle and knocking as search words and there's not much point in even dipping into the several thousands of hits!!

Basically, I've got a fairly audible rattle that comes from the back with every bump I happen upon. It sounds like it could be coming from the plastics near the rea seat belt anchor points maybe? Anyone experience this at all?

The front knock/clonk is when I go over grates/dips/bumps in the road - NOT under acceleration or deceleration?

Any help would be appreciated or a point in the right direction as to which threads may hold an answer.

I've also got the rear door leaks as standard, the driver's door lock mechanism failure on the lights on buzzer, uneven wear on the inner edges of my front tyres.... The list goes on a little more, and I'm aware of fixes for these!!!! SO just ignore them. I'm just releasing steam!

Cheers for now!

Si.

Any takers??!

The front could be a number of things, are you running stock suspension?

The rear. I'd suggest getting in the back as a passenger have someone drive down the road and having a good listen back there.

Remove the rear seats side by side to gain better access, and have a poke around, it shouldn't be too difficult to track down.

I'm currently having a similar issue but in the front, it's driving me nuts as I can't access whatever it is (buried in the dash passenger side).

The rear rattle could be the bits in the spare wheel well. Make sure everything is secure and lid is on it properly. Try having a little trip with the spare out and see if that stops it rattling, if you believe that could be the cause.

I had an annoying rattle caused by the rear seat release catch (for folding the seat down) I wedged a small bit of card in it and its been silent since:-)

Get a mate to sit in the back while you drive to pinpoint the exact cause. Mine was at certain revs only not over bumps tho.

try your rear head rests, i remember mike07vrs had this problem he found it out for me

It's standard suspension fella.....

Magic! Will check a few of these things out. Just wanted to see if there was something common before I started stripping plastics etc!

I suffered the rattling plastic rear seat catch too. Tiny bit of black goo to fix mine!

As for front knocking, could be bushes.. Mine recently was the front ARB bracket had come ever so slightly loose. Two bolts to tighten & 5 mins to fix (if it's that).

I've got a similar rattle in my octavia II whenever I go over bumps. I thought it could be the rear seats or the spare wheel, but it's the boot lid trim that's causing it on mine.

Looks like it was the drop links according to the garage. Not covered in the warranty though obvioulsy, but managed to get the light on warning buzzer sorted under it! Tidy! They wanted £130 for the drop links. Thought that was costly seeing as the part is only £35 delivered for the uprated items?

I'll check the rear seats - it's really quite loud and sounds pretty loose whatever it is?! :)
