GoPro HD

Featured Replies

Think it's about time I got one. I did debate a while ago about one but think it's about time to get one. Want something for in car but also when I'm on the road bike too. How are people mounting them in car? On the windscreen? Thinking for the Castle Combe track day too so where's the cheapest I can get one?

I sold one last week on this forum for £100!

Anyway, they come with a foot that slots into a mount.

The mount has 3m tape on it and sticks very securely to the inside of the windscreen.

Then you slide the GoPro out when you don't want it in the car and the mount stays in place.

Job done.

The motorsport kit comes with a sucker mount and two each of the flat windscreen mounts and the curved helmet ones.

Yeah I did have a look the new one is the GoPro HD Hero 2. Not only do I want it for in car but also on my road bike. You always see then on Youtube with cyclists filming getting hit off and I'll be doing lots of cycling once it gets a bit warmer and more predictable. Where's the cheapest place to buy one new? I did see this one on eBay for £230 including postage

Don't get sucked into buying the mk2 unless you need the extra functions, like wireless activation (with an extra module you need to buy) or the ability to take better quality still photos.

I've had both and there is very little difference in actual performance in video mode unless you use a widescreen TV to view, but you can pick a mk1 up cheaper and much less if you buy one from someone trading upto a mk2. I'd personally say the mk2 is only about 5% better for recording, but it'll cost you £50 more new or £100 2nd hand.

If you get one I've got a handlebar mount indoors that you can have. Same mounts fit mk1 and mk2.

If you buy one PM me your address and I'll pop it in the post.

Prices seem to be about £230 for a mk2, £180 for a mk1 (with a fitting kit, I prefer the Motorsport one) and 2nd hand on ebay they go for around the £130 mark if you are not in a rush.

Isn't battery life better on the 2 and it records full 1080p? What is battery life like if you use it continuously

In my experience there is not much difference in battery life.

They both last between 2 and 2.5 hours.

There are cheaper mk1 versions with 960p, but the mk1 I had (and prices I quoted above) are full 1080p, same as the mk2.

I would be careful buying second hand as these tiny cameras can get knocked about and repairs are very difficult.

I have 2 of them, Hero HD and Hero2. Cant see much difference in quality which is very good for the price.

3rd party suppliers/modifyers are now appearing with an extensive range of add-ons.

Overall bags of fun for not a huge outlay.
