Fabia Stereo Issues

Featured Replies

Anyone else had intermittent sound problems with the Symphony Stereo?

Dealer advises that unit needs to be returned to Grundig for repair and could be gone for upto 6 weeks. No replacement stereo offered nor available.

Skoda UK Customer services agree. Because the part is not manufactured by Skoda, it needs to be repaired by the manufacturer and is covered differently under the warranty. Funny thing is that it is one of the few things in the car with Skoda's name on it :-)

Best quote of the day though from customer services "Our Marketing Department don't talk to customers" hahaha..

Mine used to cut out very occasionally - only on the radio though - think it was when the signal dropped, it went silent instead of playing static. Problem solved by chucking it in the cupboard and fitting a nice alpine deck instead

My previous radio had a habit of jumping by 5 when adjusting the volume by 1, didnt matter which way I wanted the volume, it would either blast out when increasing by 1, or go very quiet when decreasing by 1.

The dealer swapped my unit, no problem, I made sure they saw the problem and insisted on a replacement unit. Is the car under warranty ( new ) ?

The current unit does the same thing occasionally, but can out up with it,

Steve

so does mine, but VERY occasionally

The units are manufactured by Grundig for Skoda to Skoda requirement/design - its like most items for the car other than body and engines most parts are made or asembled by other manufacturers - some even within the skoda factories. The only other repair scheme I have heard of is where you return your unit and an exchange unit is provided - so I wouldn't be surprised if the unit returned has a different serial no.

no problems with the radio tuning but have problems with the 6 cd changer. Sometimes says "disc error" and refuses to take some of my cd's at all. I have to take them all out, put them all back and it's ok for a while. Must speak to the dealer about it. My wife hates my cd's and reckons the changer's got better taste than me !!!!

Yep mine does all of the above, it cuts out and a loud crackle comes through the speakers, I have to turn it off then back on again. Jumps from say 5 to 0 or to 10.

To be honest I'm not that fussed by it, if I remember to make a comment about it when it goes to the dealer next I will and if not then I'll leave it. Chances are I'm going replace it with my on head unit

Just back from the dealer this morning. Car was in for the fuel thingy recall and also to remove the stereo as it was showing 'no disc' when trying to eject and the mrs put another CD in....doh! Also volume adjustment was very sensitive and would sometimes go down instead of up and vice versa. Did not give me a replacement either and said it has to be sent back but told me it would be back in 7 - 10 days. 6 weeks seems a bit extreme. I woudl challange them on this. Dealer I went to is Graham Chatham in Edinburgh

I fitted an Alpine changer in the boot of mine with an adaptor to run on the stock HU and it's been pretty much faultless. I think twice since I've had it, I've gone from radio to CD and nothing's happened, but a quick switch off / switch on has been all that's been needed...

Mine cut out aswell, got it swapped at thedealer, no probs yet, also on the new one the volume control is a lot stiffer so it no longer jumps 5 noches when i only want to increase or decrease the sound a litle bit. :D:thumbup:

Blimey !!

Im taking delivery of my Fabia vRS in june and not lookin forward using that stereo!!!

Im getting a 6cd changer factory fitted, probs wont be in for long if i get the problems you guys have had !!

From the number of issues posted here, maybe the reason for Skoda returning units to Grundig is to hold them accountable for the quality issues.

Seems like a very high level of problems to me.

People will generally be quick to post problems but won't bother if they don't have problems.

Two Points:

1. I have no problems whatsoever apart from noting the TP system seems over eager at cutting in at times - but it's not a real problem.

2. I believe - check other postings - that the 6CD changer only works with the Skoda headunit - so if you do change you're wasting a lot of money having one installed new on the car

mine is fine, other than sometimes, on startup, the unit's CD 'drive'(?) will click as if its searching to get hold of the CD - this can last for anything from 2seconds to a minute - will get it sorted on its next service :)

TP is indeed a little keen - also not 100% sure it works when playing CDs but then I've not tried that much ;)

No problems with the Skoda stuff (Grundig, whichever) so far ;)

Exact same problem with Sony aftermarket changer, cuts out a couple of times a week, switch off & on a couple of times seems to cure it.

Has anyone got any tips for fixing the CD changer?

Ive took the CD cassette out of the changer and left it in my house for 2 days, when I tried to put it back in all I get is CD error! It’s done this before but normally fixes itself after I eject and re-insert the cassette. Its been like it now for 48 hours any ideas?

Had a problem with my first unit where one turn click of the vol **** took it up about 5, and same counter-clockwise. Also CD player would randomly stop.

Had it replaced over a year ago...the new unit rules.

This makes me glad my Fabia just has a Radio Cassette! I was going to try and find a Symphony CD unit to replace it but maybe 'if it aint broke , dont fix it' should be my motto! I had no probs with the Radio Cassette/ Changer in my Octavia vRS , or the single slot CD player in my Slxi 1.8T Octy , both were Grundig units as well.

PS tried a Colt CZT Turbo not so long ago, the stereo in that car was really poor , listening to a tape in my Fabia sounded 10 times better than the standard fit CD in the Colt!
