Skoda Octavia battery drain/central locking 03

Featured Replies

Hi,

Im going a bit mad.

Problems that i have had are if the car sits for more than two days the battery is completely flat (changed it after the first couple of times to a new but didn't help). Purchased a multimeter which shows a drain of around .35. Removed all the fuses and switches but the drain is the same. Think the drain is coming from the drives door.

Next set of problems are - the central locking with the remote does not open or close the drives side door but the rest works ok. With the key all doors open as they should. When driving the cars tries to lock and unlock all the time but the drivers door has not reaction. If i press on the window control panel to lock/unlock doors the same thing happens - drives door has not reaction and the rest open and close as they should. Also the side mirror control only functions to the other side of the car even if the switch is on the left or right and the de mist function does not work.

I have removed the door trim and the window motor with control until attached had water in it but after cleaning it looked pretty good. I have checked all the wiring and all looks sound. I have purchased a new door locking unit as i thought the micro switch could be broken but that gave no results.

I have taken the car into different garages but they say they can only continue to change parts until the problem stops.

The new door locking unit cost 200 pund here. They want 300 pound plus labour to fit a new window motor with control unit. I can do that myself but its 300 pound as i want to be sure thats the problem because they wont allow me to return it after i have tested it.

Would really appreciate some advice. I have spent many hours looking over different topics but none match my problems exactly.

I would check the wiring from the door to the car isn't damaged (it is in a bundle which goes through a little rubber hose near the door hinges) although you might have already checked that?

Also check the wiring in the control panel in the arm rest on the drivers door, particularly to the switch which locks/unlocks all the doors.

It sounds like you've already checked everything else that might be the problem.

The fact that it keeps locking and unlocking all the time suggests it thinks the drivers door is unlocked when it should be locked, or vice versa.

It's the one thing with these cars that bugs me, the central locking seems to be a common problem on all Mk1 Octavias and it can be an expensive thing to fix.

Checked all that and looks fine.

Any other tips?

I have actually had some progress that could help others with similar problems. I actually got off the control box attached to the window motor and with closer inspection there was more damage and even missing pins on the connector. Nearly impossible to see with it connected. Ok had changed out the damaged pins (another guy actually did it) but no solution. Then have cut back the tape around the wires going into the black plug and the red/yellow wire can be easily pulled out. Great tips by another on this forum on this topic! The problem i have left is the metal clip at the end of wire is broken in half and i need to find a new one so i can cut off the old one and attach a new one and hopefully solve these problems.

The question is does anyone know if these clips are special or are they available in electrical shops or from skoda? Would appreciate anyone that has some knowledge on this. Dont want to drive tomorrow in circles trying to find a clip.
