  1. I probably didn’t put it properly - it seems that nowadays, many are well aware of their rights, (ie what the regs say they are entitled to do) with little or no acceptance of their responsibilities, ie when it comes to considering others. I felt that the way you’d worded your first post on this was of this order. You have now explained. Thanks.
  2. The Mmm was, I thought, the most appropriate response, as, to my mind, having the right isn’t always being right. But I don’t want to fall out with anyone, so I’ll just say I apologise if you took offence, and see my sig. Malcolm
  3. First of all a good bit: Mrs B actually spoke to someone at DVLA today. 🙂 But - her year of not driving (medically, not for being naughty!) is up this Wednesday, but, even having applied for the licence reissue 8 weeks ago as allowed, DVLA still haven’t received the OK from the consultant. They’ve cashed the fee cheque though… unfortunately her circumstances don’t come under the “once we’ve received your application you can drive pending licence being dispatched” clause, so it's just a case of waiting.
  4. Was that the Mr Peel who founded the Police force? 🤔
  5. Forest having 3 penalty appeals turned down!!!
  6. Starting in 1963: bikes - Excelsior Consort, Lambretta 150LD, 350cc Norton model 50. From 1964, cars - 1937 Morris 8 tourer, ‘53 100E Anglia, ‘58 Morris 1000 Traveller, ‘61 A-H Frogeye Sprite, ’70 HB VivaSL,’74 Allegro, (Mrs B then took over ‘our’ cars!) Then lots of company cars 1978-2016, inc Merc, Lexus. since 2016 - Volvo C70 hardtop convertible, current Octavia. Plus JZR 3 wheeler, wot I built in the late 90s.
  7. Invited by our daughter and son-in-law for evening meal. A very nice traditional Sunday roast ensued, chicken with just about all the trimmings. Mrs B out for lunch today, so it looks like back to B-o-T for me…
  8. Thanks for all the replies chaps, much appreciated. malcolm
  9. Apologies for another SD card query, but I couldn’t find exactly what I need to clarify. My car, 18 reg, has the Amundsen 2, with I suspect the original maps. I’ve found this on eBay, anyone know if this is what I need to update, please?p
  10. I am fortunate in that I managed to do what lol-lol suggested, so, with taking some of Mrs B’s personal allowance, I have paid virtually no tax since I retired 8 years ago. Our state (and my small RAF) pensions are topped up by drawing on CGT-paid (therefore now tax free) capital from the sale of my business, rather than drawing down from my private pensions, which would be taxed. For the current year, though, HMRC’s estimate for my income tax is just over 3 times last year’s figure, mainly as a result of the personal allowance being frozen. Lol-lol, the ‘plus pension income’ you mention will itself be taxable once over the PA threshold.
  11. Mrs B had a lovely 07 reg 3 cyl Fabia, but it kept ‘losing’ coil packs, the last time it happened was on the M25, when we hadn’t replaced the last spare we usually kept with the car. Called the RAC, whose gizmo diagnosed at least one duff coil, fortunately he had one on his van (must be common, then?). Anyway, he volunteered to follow me until I would leave the M25, to check all was OK. But a few miles on, it failed again. ‘Must be plugs’ he suggested. Fortunately there was a Halfords just off the next junction. With a new set of plugs we never had another coil pack let go. Lesson learnt - but we still p/ex’d the car soon after for a 1.6 diesel Fabia. And entered the world of short journey DPF problems…
  12. Further to the DAB comment above, also check whether there any curtain airbags above the doors. If so, make sure the camera cable doesn’t foul them and affect their operation. “Wiggling a flexible wire thingy through the headlining” sounds a bit risky to me if there are airbags. Maybe route the cable along the floor to be certain?
