Do I have a dust / pollen filter

Featured Replies

Please can anyone tell me how I can find out what is fitted to a specific Fabia model. In particular in this instance the standard service for my car says "Replace dust and pollen filter (if fitted)". My handbook does not mention a dust and pollen filter at all. Seeing other postings here on this subject I have hung up-side-down with a torch and looked for it under the dashboard pasenger side and could not see it. Mostly the whole underside is covered by a black polystyrene board which is retained by being above various steel edges and looks like it will break up if I try forcing it out, though there must be a way to get it out wthout damaging it. So before I go to the trouble I need to know if there is actually a filter under it as per "if fitted".

From the Log Book its a FABIA 3 105 Auto 1.6 (2009)

If you could answer that specific question that would be great but also in general there seems to be hundreds of variants so is there an identification process or data base anywhere that enables one to find out.

Another instance is: I know its a 1.6 Auto so that tells me it has a BTS engine, but there were 2 automatic gearboxes a JUF and a KGG which do I have?

Luckily these days when you go for a spare part they ask you for your registration number and their computer can access a database and work out the exact part needed. Can I get access to that system I wonder?

Yes it's underneath the passenger side glove box easy for the modest diyer to fit panel type

You have to bend the polystyrene sheet out of the way.

Thanks very much. I will give it a go. Hope the polystyrene doesn't snap.

It won't snap you've got a sliding lock on it, easy peasy

...........who often should they (pollen filter) be changed ??????????? my fab3 is nearly 2 years old and i havent changed it yet.

I change mine every year I'm sure they do on service always

20,000 miles or two years.

....is there also a dust filter or is it just the pollen filter? ...and what about the aircondition how often should that be looked at?

The pollen filter is the only filter in the system, however there are two different versions. One is also an odour filter with a carbon layer, they are interchangeable.

Skoda advise an air con regas and health check every two years.

Thanks Tech1e ....... by the way is the air con regas and health check every two years part of the service or an extra on top of the service.

Pollen filters are only about £15 from independent or Halfords. My family Polos and Fabias pollen filters tend to get really dirty after a couple of years and , as above, an easy job to change. Problem is, no-one seems to notice any benefits but I'm sure the demisting and fresh air would work better when clean.

Changing it often will help get rid of contaminents that may irritate your lungs... In general, if you have air-con, you have a filter. Many non-air-cons have the space to slot the filter in anyway, so you can often retro-fit one... Not sure about Skud's though! It may well be worth using one of those air-con cleaning "Bomb's" Prior to fitting the new element, too. It will decontaminate the pipework behind the dash that may be full of sh-rubbish!

I started a thread about a month ago, about changing the filters, along with a set of wiper blades and mentioned a supplier who is very competetive on price. All parts were genuine Bosch, so the quality is unquestionable. It was quite simple but unfortunately, I have no picturesbut it may be helpful.

P.S. Pollen, dust and cabin filter, all refer to the same filter.

What i did in my old fabia was stuck a magic tree air freshener in with the filter (on the filtered side) so as air was filtered it would then be forced through the air freshener and you'd get majestic smells coming out the vents without ever seeing a little tree.
