Plastic plug retaining clip broken, what to do?

Featured Replies

I ran a VCDS auto-scan this morning which revealed the fault code for an open circuit on the diverter valve. I jacked the front of the car, took the wheel off and checked the plug on the DV - it was loose and the small plastic clip that needs to be depressed to separate the plug and socket has broken off. Pushing the plug back onto the DV solves the issue but I am assuming it is only a matter of time before the plug slips off again. I don't want to resort to taping it on as the cables would have to be taped over and possibly put under strain when bent. Can the plug housing be replaced or is there another fix?

Cheers

Need to de pin and replace the connector.

Does that require a specialist tool and are the connecters readily available?

Connectors are available from Skoda. Normally requires a pin release tool.

Not sure wot the plug looks like but would there be a way of getting a cable tie around the plug between the wires instead of tape as a temp fix.

Gaffer tape FTW

Nice one cheers - I'd seen that and a similar (and probably more expensive) Durite tool.

Yes that's possible and I'd actually done that about 1/2 an hour before your post, but a good shout as a temp fix. Seems to be holding up but will check with VCDS in a bit.

With a couple of very small screwdrivers and some patience you can extract the pins without a special tool.
