A quick "how to" - getting the inlet manifold off, BLT engine

Featured Replies

Sorry no photos yet but quick descript

1/ remove the plastic engine cover

2/ unfasten the intercooler pipe running towards front of engine (in both places). Unsnap and move out the way

3/ remove the plastic hose from airbox into inlet as well, right side of engine. There are also some coolant hoses that can get in the way that eventually may be temporarily unfastened out the way.

4/ the longest of 3 allen bolts (6mm I think) goes through the egr through vacuum assembly into the inlet, remove this and the 2 others (the bottom one is a bitch but you may be able to slide it at this point and with persistance you will get it). There is a wee vaccum hose or something, unplug that so the egr can move out the way more freely too.

5/ Now you can also remove the 2 screws remaining on the assembly into the inlet. Getting this loose can be useful later as it makes getting to inlet allen bolts somewhat easier, although it is attached to a concertina pipe which is torqued very high so I found no need to remove this.

6/ I also loosened and removed the pipe with the gasket for the egr valve, this made life a bit easier

7/ There are 3 smaller allen bolts (4 or 5mm I think) that hold the bit of pipe that u's around and bolt to the exhaust I think. Removing this will also make accessing the inlet much easier

Now I decoked the egr and the other assembly best as possible, and also removed the inlet and used 500ml can of carb cleaner just cleaning it all out

Reverse to refit ! Hopefully there was some benefit to this, in some places there was at least 3+ mm of gunk in the outlets which its satisfying to have at least removed.
