VRS oil emulsion

Featured Replies

I've just topped the oil in my 2008 petrol-engined VRS estate. When I removed the filler cap there was a quantity of "mayonnaise" emulsion on the underside, something which has never been there before. Recently the car has mainly been used for short local runs (yes, I know it's a waste of a VRS...) and it was dealer serviced just before Christmas. I'm not mechanically minded and I wonder if this is something I should be concerned about?

This is something u see on most vag petrol engines. I wouldn't worry.

Dave, this is something I was really concerned about - I assumed the head gasket had gone or something. But, thanks to advice on the forum, quickly realised that it's caused by condensation which forms on shorter journeys. I recently did a 200 mile round trip to the in-laws and there was no sign of any mayonnaise when I had returned. You can rest assured that it isn't an issue - like Davidsr20 said, it seems to be a characteristic of VAG engines.

Thanks for such prompt reassurance guys. My motorbike has a sight glass for checking the oil rather than a dipstick and if it hasn't had a decent run for a while you sometimes see condensation on the inside of the glass. I guessed it was a similar issue but it's good to have it confirmed by people who know what they're talking about!

Nothing to worry about, mine has done this for the last 20k & 18 months ive had it.

Get a catch can ;)

I had this on mine after plenty of short runs in the cold weather and panicked (I know it's only a 1.6 but the same principle would apply)...a few longer runs and I checked the other day - no sign of the creamy grunge :whew:

I agree with all above. What bike do you put the VRS to shame with?
