Wing mirror indicator LEDs

Featured Replies

The led indicator has gone in the wing mirror of my Octy. I paid loads to have it fixed by the garage last time they went of the other side so thought I would take life in my hands and try and fit them myself. Does anyone have any idea where I can get them from?

I know they don't go that often but I've racked up a few miles on my 2005 model, just over 250,00 so I've had plenty of use out of them!

Good old ebay mate, loads of the indicator unit led's on there

Thanks. I might be being a bit dumb (it's been known!) but I cant find any for the left hand passenger side for a 2005 Octy

Im sure the 1s on there are for all VAG cars from 2000 onwards, they are all the same part number i believe be it skoda, vw, audi etc.

VW NUMBER 1K0949101 for passenger side & VW NUMBER 1K0949102 for drivers side.

Drop the seller an email & they should be able to confirm if they are the correct 1s for your vehicle.

Unfortunately those parts do fit almost all VAG cars 2000 onwards...........all except the mk II Octavia ! (and VW Polo)

The Octavia uses 1Z0949101C (left) and 1Z0949102C (right).

The indicator on my wing mirror has failed so after a search found this thread.

A quick googgle shows that the units are £ 20.

All other bulbs work and my warning light on dash isn't showing any bulbs out but no amber flasher.

How easy are these to fit?

The most difficult bit is removing the mirror glass. Use the electric adjustment to angle it all the way down so that it is pointing to the floor.

This then allows you to get your fingers behind the glass and pull off the mirror glass. Just make sure the pulling pressure is applied evenly and be prepared for when it detaches as you'll need to disconnect the wires for the heating elements.

Once these are off the torx screws holding in the repeater and its electrical connections are all clearly visible.

Thanks silver - Is getting the mirror glass back on easy?

Is a non-working mirror repeater an MOT failure - I've read conflictng reports from a little surfing.

Once the mirror is off you can see the tabs that lock the mirror in place, this allows you to see where you need to apply the pressure when re-fitting.

Good question on the repeater requirement for an MOT. I know older cars never used to have them fitted.

However my thoughts would be that if they are fitted then they have to work.

My MOT tester gets me to operate the lights whilst he checks them and I remember him being stood at the front of the car taking a look over each wing at the repeaters...?

Thanks again. I'm competent with a Torx but I've had some bad experiences of trim clips going ping!

I'm up in York over August Bank holiday weekend...

Re the MOT question, side repeaters are required for cars first used after 1 April 1986, so a non-working mirror indicator on an Octy would be a fail.
