Yeti to the Alps (2)

Featured Replies

This time last year drove Betty to Samoens and Chamonix for a ski holiday, this year it was Val D'Isere and Tignes. 1900 mile round trip with no problems (after the trauma I've already mentioned just before we set off). However, there was one significant difference. Last year I managed (with a squeeze) to stuff four pairs of skis inside the car. Having bought some roof bars last summer so that I could carry our bikes, this year I dug our old Thule roof box out of the garage and put the skis in that. It was a sight more comfortable inside the car with the extra space, but the box murdered the fuel consumption. Last year we managed close to 50mpg average for the trip (most of which was done at c80mph with cruise control switched on). This year we were down to just over 40mpg, running at about the same speeds. I think next year I'll live with the space being squeezed.

Well at least you got there in the end, which is more than I have been able to manage this year...

Hope you enjoyed yourself, the pictures alone make me shake with jealousy!

It's not too late - the snow in Tignes will last until late April at least!

Looks like you had a great time, thanks for the excellent pics....

One of the reasons I bought the Yeti was the unsatisfactory experience of taking a Volvo V50 to St. Anton and sliding all over the place when it snowed on the motorway.

are you deliberately trying to provoke a winter tyres debate?

I know St Anton. A coach holiday company I used to work for (Robinson Holidays near Blackburn) ran a tour based at the Hotel Post for many years.

We go to a place called Ellmau about 10 miles from Kitzbuhel. Been going there for about 20 years. Love it!

Next winter trip will hopefully be with the new Yeti 140 DSG which I'm looking forward to.

.

Yes. I've been skiing at Ellmau/Soll/Itter a few times, but not for about 25 years.
