My blackvue stopped recording today

Featured Replies

Randomly it decided to stop recording half way through a journey. The light is on the end as if it was in parking mode. I have checked all setttings and it seems to be OK. I was able to read & review files from the last 2 weeks of driving, but now it doesn't turn on.... Any ideas?

Hmm, reading in the manual, suggests the micro SD card needs regular reformatting/updating. Maybe that's the next port of call.

Micro SD card reformatted and latest firmware upgrade applied - all working again.

Mental note made to reformat the card more often!

According to p31 of the user manual you should re-format every week.

Yeah right!

Most issues (well, all I've ever had) have been fixed by a format of the micro SD card.

It should always be the first port of call.

I only wish I'd had more warning. It was totally full though, with 2 weeks of footage on going back as far as my Ultimate Dubs trip. I just think when it does get full and it starts to over-write over the old data, things can get a bit flaky. Looking back now, I wish I could have worked out how many hours the full card had on it. :)

That's easy Jason, record for one hour and see how the percentage and amount used and free. Then you'll know how long a full one is.

They do rerecord, but all the rapid rewriting of data can cause issues when it's done many times.

If it's an issue you can reduce the quality of the footage slightly, which seriously extends the recording time before data is overwritten.

I might reduce it. At the moment, I love the playback quality of full HD setting. SO clear!

I believe there is a 760 or 720 HD setting as well as the 1060 HD, which will look pretty similar on a computer monitor. Just means it's not as good for watching on your widescreen TV. :)

So you can lower the quality without dropping the HD.

Or just keep a spare formatted micro SD card in the car.

Why would it need reformatting every week? Sounds like bad software design to me!

Mine also done this and was cured by a format and update. I now keep a blank spare sd card in the car.

What quality setting do you have yours on to record that much? Also I don't format mine weekly. I've done it twice since fitting the new card which was a couple of Weeks after receiving it.

You can also restart the unit by pressing and holding the end button.

I've been using BlackVue's now for about a year, firstly the DR300 and now the DR400.

The DR400 does drain the battery if left on overnight and then the car is not used for 36 hours, and the temperature is very low ..... Happened to me twice now, dead battery. I switch off at night by disconnecting the power supply.

I have had to reformat a few times, but only tend to do it when upgrading the firmware.

There was a new update at the end of february.

As well as reducing the quality, you can also reduce the frame rate.

Having maximum resolution in full HD, but only 15fps instead of 30 I can get about 12 hours of driving footage on a 16gb card before it starts to overwrite.

I'd just bump it back up to 30fps for track days. :)

I'm getting about 12 hours on my cards as well, but at 30fps.

Well, they are class 10 32Gb cards. Hehehe

  • 3 weeks later...

Mines packed in

extract from the email I sent to Blackvue...

After instalation the quality of the recorded video was very poor. I upgraded the firmware and formatted the SD card as detailed on page 31 of the user manual (ver 1.4). This made no difference. Soon after I had a message from the camera while driving saying "check SD Card" I removed and re-formatted the SD card. It had been 1 week since I had last formatted the SD card. I now have the same message when I power up the device in the car and my PC gives me "Blackvue SD card not found" when I open the Blackvue file and select setting.

I'm hoping a new SD card will sort it.

Dodgy cards seem to have been relatively common sadly. Mine's not packed in since I reformatted, and its definitely reached that point where it is looping over old footage.

I have had to replace one of my BlackVue 400's, as it wasn't working as it should. It was a very early production model. The LED's weren't on, it trashed an SD card and kept on saying 'check SD card'

Replaced without problem by my supplier (HIDs4U)

Blackvue have just got back to me saying its nowt to do with them.

I need to get in contact with the seller. Does anyone know who the seller was for the Blackvue Group buy on here? I don't remember having any receipt.

Bossfox. Pretty sure all serial numbers of all blackvues bought are logged in that huge purchase he made.

its definitely reached that point where it is looping over old footage.

It does that after about 2 days on a 32GB card.......
