Hi twista,

sounds like you need a new coolant temperature sensor. read this thread here:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/61178-fabia-coolant-temp-sensor-how-to/

i have a 1.4 16V too and had to replace the sensor. it is an absolute PITA to remove and put back in on our engine once you have found it that is! probably took me about 2-3 hours in total.

another problem i experienced when my sensor needed replacing was when i had been driving for a couple of hours and then turned the engine off, it wouldn't turn on immediately as the sensor would fail to see that the engine was warm or something. if you have that problem too, it is almost certainly the sensor.

if you read the thread above and this sounds similar to your problems, then when you replace your sensor, i have just a couple of bits of advice/info...

the sensor on the 1.4 16V is right at the bottom of the coolant system. the coolant WILL flood out. there's no point trying to plug it as the space where you're working is EXTREMELY tight and fiddly (as you will find out). so you may want to drain the coolant before hand. i don't know how you do this but i am sure someone else on here will know.

make sure you purchase the correct replacement sensor. i take no responsibility for you purchasing the wrong one!

here is a picture of where the sensor is located:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/151833-my-first-scan-and-4-dtcsyay/page__p__1893571#entry1893571

the picture is reasonably helpful. basically, as you face the engine, remove the plastic cover. then, as you look at the engine, the sensor will be buried under a load of wiring/tubes on the front right side of the engine.

hope this helps!
