Hi all

Hope you can help.

I've had my 2007 2.0tfsi VRS for 3 weeks and all has been well....until today.

Took the car out for a short drive at lunch and it felt hesitatant and almost a slight kangaroo effect, no engine management light showing though.

However I jumped in the car to come home and the engine management light came on and the car was idling very roughly for a few minutes and then settled down. The drive home wasn't too bad though except a slight hesitancy but not really terrible by any means. Stopped at the shop and when I got back in the light was still on. Come home ranting and raving about the car seeing as i'm supposed to be driving 4 hours to Manchester tomorrow to do a presentation for work.

5 minutes ago I start the car again and there is no light on now!

Help! Does this sound typcial of any fault (i.e coil etc)?? I know I'm going to take a big risk driving to Manchester tomorrow but I don't think i've got much choice.

Any information/advise would be welcome.

I would say new coil packs and spark plugs will sort it. But first get it scanned

If the problem has only just started do they take a while to breakdown completely or do i have an immediate problem?

It will get worse if it's the coil packs but your symptoms sound like early stages. I would get scanned and replaced

Well I managed to get to and from Manchester today (about 9 hours of driving) without the engine management light coming on. The only problem with the drive was a slightly lumpy idle when the car is warm.

I called my local dealer (robinsons Norwich) and they confirmed that there are no outstanding recalls for my car so all they could advise was a half house diagnostic check which i've booked for Thursday.

Will the fault I experience the other day be logged so they can see it when they do the check?

Thanks

Yes it should be. If you are getting lights on the dash then this will have logged on the car's CANBUS which will be downloaded during your half hours diagnostic check.
