2.0Tfsi (BWA) Cam Follower - paranoid?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone advise on this please?

06 Vrs petrol, BWA engine, 52K miles - I have seen so many posts regarding the failure of the cam follower. I replaced it on my previous 56 plate Vrs with 85K miles. It wasn't too worn but the black coating had come off and metal exposed.

Previously I followed the below article on how to change it, and it was very easy. However, I notice the setup on this engine seems to be different. It all looks very similar, but there appears to be two metal pipes running to the underside of the pump. I'm sure in my other Vrs it was just one? Maybe Im mistaken?.

1. Should I replace the cam follower, or is this being paranoid?

2. If yes, can anyone advise if the article is correct for the fuel pump on the BWA engine?

Cheers.

I think it is easy to be a bit neurotic (paranoia is where an individual perceives others talking about them / out to get them  ) about this. I used to check my cam follower at least every 10k miles but realised that the newer revision cam followers go a lot longer than this.

I believe that some of the older HPFPs used two metal pipes with one being a banjo fitting to the pump instead of the rubber pipe on newer HPFPs. This makes things a little trickier.

Did you see Carl's guide on here?
