Corner fogs with xenons

Featured Replies

Ive got a 2012 octavia vrs estate with xenons,my corner fogs don't seem to be working,do they work with xenons or do I need to turn something on,I've got corner function switched on

The corner function you have turned on may be for the xenons, these adjust left and right as you turn the wheel.

The cornering fog lights are a seperate function. I think this feature first needs enabling by a dealer / someone with VCDS before it appears in Maxidot.

Can I get this done at my local dealer?

I.e any dealer or a specialist VAG

You can always ask...

Tried to get it done at my local stealer & they said they couldn't do it so guess you need someone with vcds

It doesn't appear in maxidot after its been enabled. You need VCDS.

The cornering function in maxidot is for the AFS Xenon's so that the lights 'turn' with the wheel above 15kmh.

I have done it on mine and the only advantage to it is that it lights up my drive better when turning in as it is a very tight angle and steep with a fence. Other than that, pretty useless.

They don't however come on pointlessly with the indicators like VW's and Seats seem to, they come on with the angle of the wheel.

What an absolute waste of time. Cornering 'fogs'. As if having HID wasn't enough.

Makes you look like a prat driving around with one bulb out. As if it was difficult to corner in the dark before this silly idea came out.

Yes, I had them on a Golf GTI and I live in the country.

agree, cornering fogs are a creation without purpose and to be honest look daft.

I'll leave it then

I note those that hate them have modified their cars :giggle:

This is just another 'mod' (albeit one available from the factory) that is a free or at most a small cost option.

Any worse than fitting after market xenon's, air filters etc??

Couple of cans of Guiness if I recall ;)

Had mine done, I like them and have no desire to have them switched off. Not that many cars have them at the moment (I suspect it'll come, like DRL's etc) so it is a distinguishing feature. Those who believe that you're driving with one fog-light on obviously don't understand how or when they come on and when they go off.

That's not the point. They're useless.

Pretend they light the corner up more so you can see the rabbits hidden in the grass.

Headlights do a pretty good job.

From your signature:

2011 Fabia VRS - Corrida Red - Black roof - Revo Stage 1 & SPS - ITG Maxogen Induction - H&R springs - Philips HID - Privacy - Cruise - Climatronic - Reverse sensor - Gentex Auto dimming mirror - Carbon mirrors - DTM Front splitter - Armrest - Custom badges

....don't they just 'look nice' but don't actually do anything practical? :wonder: :wonder:

To the OP: find someone with VCDS, get them switched on. Make up your own mind as to their usefulness. If you don't like them, you can just as easily get them switched off again. ;)

Disagree, I don't have them on either of my Octavia's but drove a Seat Ibiza and Skoda Yeti with them and found them very useful to the point I missed them. They were better on the Yeti but its fog lights are quite a bit higher - just under the headlights.

In lit-up areas they weren't so effective but out on non-lit roads they were fabulous. They also came on with the indicators below 30mph.

Other road users who don't understand them are the same plonkers who flash cars with DRL's, it'll take time but the less intelligent amongst us will eventually catch on.

I found they never made much difference on the Octavia, but on the yeti - perhaps because of the higher fogs - they do really make a difference on country roads in particular (just IMHO obviously)

It is also worth noting that there are three different designs of front foglight on the MkII Octavia (pre-FL, FL & vRS/Scout) which will be more or less effective.
