Insurance: legal cover worth it ?

Featured Replies

I have always ensured I had legal cover when insuring my vehicles, but recently I seem to notice a lot of people questioning it.

In paticular there seems to be a lot of people mentioning all the insurance company does is sell your accident details to a no win no fee outfit.

Apart from covering for uninsured losses, injuries and your excess, I always thought the insurance company paid proper solicitors to ensure that you were suitably recompensed, or represented in the event of a dispute.

What are peoples thoughts and experiences on the above, is it a con ?

I know a few people who are glad they had this. All cover is not the same, but I haven't heard of any stories where the cover was absolutely useless. Most people will never need it.

One left a garage after having a service and his brakes failed. He hit another car. Solicitors provided by the cover dealt with this. He didn't pay anything and the insurance company didn't even count it as a no claim accident.

Another girl was pulling up to the back of a queue, when the car in front backed into her ready to do a U-turn. She was on her own and the guy driving the car said he had witnesses (passsengers) who would say she rear-ended him. It was due go to court and driver admitted it was his fault.
