12v Feed in Boot?

Featured Replies

Hello.

I noticed at the weekend that my Octavia hatch doesn't have a power outlet in the boot. I had assumed it did but it appears only the estates were given this feature?

Anyway, I am going to install one, but I was wondering if there was a 12v feed anywhere that I could take the power from rather than having to go the trouble of running wires from the fuse box etc.

Many thanks.

Is there a light in the boot that comes on when the hatch is opened? If so, you could take it from the 'live' side of the switch. Don't know myself as I've got the estate.

Ah yes there is. Ideal!

If you get any joy fitting a 12V socket in your boot please let me know as i've also got a hatch and on long journeys have to power up a Tom Tom, a fridge box and joint DVD players....

Well that is a bugger.

Which fuse output do I need to use? Is there is a certain type of wire that I have to use?

You can't use that, as it isn't a 12 volt switched output. It is controlled by the can bus, and if you connect a power socket betwen the live side of the boot light and a direct earth, the boot lights will be on all the time regardless of whether the boot is open or shut. I found this when adding a power socket in the boot of my hatchback.

You need to route a cable direct to the fusebox live at the front of the car, then you can use the bodyshell as an earth.

I reckon that should be CAN'T BUS not CAN BUS! :D

Well the lighter arrived today so I went outside to size the job up and have now come back in defeated.

First of all the fuse box - I can see the fuses but I can't see where you are to connect wires?

Then in the boot, its going to be tricky to mount it on the auto changer cage and I'd still have to try and route the cable to earth.

Not to mention the mamouth task of getting the wire from the front of the car to boot in the first place.

Modern cars are far too complicated, I love their refinement, but working on them is impossible.

I like to think of it as a challenge :)
